Teen Angels (American Band)
Teen Angels was an American grunge rock band. It was formed by singer Kelly Canary and another former member of the band Dickless, drummer Lisa Smith, along with Julie Ransweiler. Nalini Cheriel (Adickdid) was also a member at one point. They released two EPs on Scooch Pooch, and then a single and an album (''Daddy'') on Sub Pop. ''Daddy'' was released on January 16, 1996. It was produced by Jack Endino. Eddie Spaghetti, of Supersuckers, plays guitar on a few songs. Critical reception ''Billboard'' though that "Teen Dream"'s "screaming vocals and screeching guitars loudly send the message that this female trio is nobody's pinup." AllMusic wrote of ''Daddy'': "The songwriting is pretty accomplished, though 1996 was a little after-the-fact for the grunge sound ... the Teen Angels have a knack for thrashy hooks and start/stop dynamics, but they lack the gifted pop genius of a Black Francis or a Kurt Cobain." Dickless
Dickless was a Seattle-based grunge band signed to Sub Pop records in 1990. Dickless is notable for their unique raspy/screamy vocal style. During their first few years, their loud and abrasive sound was new and unusual for an all-female music group. Simultaneously, their short discography included song titles and a song cover, " I'm a Man" by Bo Diddley, that were blatantly ironic given their abrasive sound and female members. The band name itself is meant to be satire. The group's period of activity coincided with the emerging "Riot grrrl" music culture. History The original lineup consisted of Lisa Buckner (drums), Kelly Canary (vocals), Jana McCall (bass), Kerry Green (guitar). Lisa Buckner was soon replaced by Lisa Smith from Atomic 61 on drums. Omnibus Press is a publisher of music-related books. It publishes around 30 new titles a year to add to a backlist of over 250 titles currently in print. Nalini Cheriel
Nalini "Deedee" Cheriel is a visual artist, musician and filmmaker who lives in Los Angeles, California. Career From the age of 19, Cheriel started out creating record covers and T-shirts for the Oregon music scene. She was a member of the band Adickdid, which was distributed by several labels including Yoyo Records and Kill Rock Stars. She also played in the bands Juned, Teen Angels, and The Hindi Guns. In 2001, Cheriel, along with friends Kurt Voss and Zoe Poledouris, created the film ''Down and Out With the Dolls.'' This film is loosely based on Cheriel's life as a musician and the stories she would tell Voss about this time of her life. After this film was released, Cheriel moved to Los Angeles, California where she lives still. After moving to Los Angeles, Cheriel began work as a visual artist. Adickdid
Adickdid was an American all-female punk rock band, started in the early 1990s in Eugene, Oregon, United States, by Kaia Wilson, Nalini Cheriel, and Sara Shelton Bellum. They toured alongside other riot grrrl bands. Their first single "All American Girl" b/w "Columbus" was put out by Imp Records in 1993. One of their opening acts was Beck at the Jabberjaw in Los Angeles. They recorded the song "Hair" on the ''Stars Kill Rock'' compilation for Kill Rock Stars. They also recorded a song for Yoyo Records. Their album, ''Dismantle'', was put out on Imp and their own record label G Records in 1993. Members went on to form The Butchies and Team Dresch. Adickdid broke up in 1995. Sub Pop is a record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. Sub Pop achieved fame in the early 1990s for signing Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney, central players in the grunge movement. Jack Endino
Jack Endino (born Michael M. Giacondino; 1964) is an American producer and musician based in Seattle, Washington. Long associated with Seattle label Sub Pop and the grunge movement, Endino worked on seminal albums from bands including Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Nirvana. He was also the guitarist for Seattle band Skin Yard, which was active between 1985 and 1992. Endino currently manages a studio in Seattle called Soundhouse Recording. Early career In 1985, Endino and Daniel House started the influential grunge band Skin Yard. Though originally a drummer, Endino played guitar and Matt Cameron played drums until he left for Soundgarden. Supersuckers
The Supersuckers are an American rock band, formed in 1988, whose music ranges from alternative rock to country rock to cowpunk. AllMusic describes the band as "the bastard sons of Foghat, AC/DC, and ZZ Top after being weaned on punk rock, unafraid of massive guitar riffs, outsized personalities, or pledging allegiance to sex, weed, and Satan with a wink and a nudge." Bassist/singer Eddie Spaghetti (real name Edward Daly) leads the band and is its only constant member. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''.
