Teeks
Te Karehana Gardiner-Toi (born 26 October 1993), known by his mononym Teeks, is a Māori soul singer from New Zealand. His debut album, '' Something to Feel'', was released on 26 March 2021. The music video for his single, "Without You", was released on 19 August 2020. It was directed by Tom Gould and was shot in Hokianga during January 2020. Teeks has said, "It's my favourite place in the world", adding that this is the territory his father is from. Life and career Teeks was born in 1993 in Northland and has Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Te Rangi and Ngāti Ranginui whakapapa. He grew up in his father's home in Opononi, near Hokianga from the age of eleven, but also spent significant time in Tauranga, where his mother lives. Something To Feel
''Something to Feel'' is the debut studio album by New Zealand soul musician Teeks. Released in three parts, first as the extended plays ''I'' and ''II'' in 2020, the album was released in full in March 2021. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the Official New Zealand Music Chart. In November 2021, the album was re-released, featuring the single "Oil & Water". Production The album's was written as an encouragement for people to express their emotions, especially men who had been taught by society to repress feelings. Teeks believed it was important to break up the album into smaller pieces, to ensure each song on the record had exposure. The 2017 New Zealand Music Awards was the 52nd holding of the annual ceremony featuring awards for musical recording artists based in or originating from New Zealand. Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Soul/RnB Artist are two Aotearoa Music Awards that honour New Zealand music artists for outstanding recordings of the genres of hip hop, and soul or R&B. The award was first awarded in 2002 as Best R&B/Hip Hop Album, and in 2003 it was called Best Urban Album. In 2004 it moved to Best Urban/Hip Hop Album. In 2017 the award was split into two separate awards: Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Soul/RnB Artist. The entry criteria were also changed to require either an album or a minimum of five single releases in the eligibility period. Controversy In 2016, the award was presented to Aaradhna her album ''Brown Girl''. Ngāi Te Rangi
Ngāi Te Rangi or Ngāiterangi is a Māori iwi, based in Tauranga, New Zealand. Its rohe (tribal area) extends to Mayor Island / Tuhua and Bowentown in the north, to the Kaimai Range in the west, south of Te Puke and to Maketu in the east. Ngāi Te Rangi is part of the Tauranga Moana iwi group, which also includes Ngāti Pūkenga and Ngāti Ranginui. The three iwi all consider Mauao (Mt Maunganui) sacred and share many things in common with one another. Collectively, the iwi are seeking compensation from the New Zealand Government for their losses from the New Zealand Wars but are yet to seek a settlement.
