Ted Vizard
Edward Vizard (7 June 1889 – 25 December 1973) was a Welsh international footballer who became a manager. He spent almost all his playing career at Bolton Wanderers. Playing career Born in Cogan, Wales Vizard joined Bolton Wanderers in September 1910 from Barry, making his debut later that year. From here, he never looked back making the outside left position his own for the next 18 seasons. In total, he made 512 appearances for the Trotters scoring 70 goals. During his time at Bolton, he appeared in the 1923, 1926 and 1929 FA Cup Finals, all three victoriously. He remained in the team until retiring in 1931 aged 41, becoming the oldest player to play for the club (a record only broken in 1995 by Peter Shilton). Vizard also won 22 international caps for Wales. Managerial career Swindon Town In April 1933 Vizard gave up his position as coach of the 'A' team with Bolton Wanderers in order to become the manager of Swindon Town, a position he held until 1939. Cogan, Vale Of Glamorgan
Cogan is a suburb of Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales south of the centre of the Welsh capital city of Cardiff. Cogan contains one of the vale's four major leisure centres. History Cogan Pill The area that would become Cogan was known as Cogan Pill for much of its history. The pil (a tidal inlet, used as a harbour) lay within the commote of Dinas Powys and joined into the River Ely near today's Pont y Werin footbridge. The Pîl is no longer extant, having been developed into the Penarth Dock in the nineteenth century. The importance of the Pîl is however, still evident by its impact on the local toponymy, with Pill Street, Cogan Pill Road and the Cogan Pill House all being named for it. William Birrell (13 March 1897 – 29 November 1968) was a Scottish professional footballer who made over 220 appearances as a forward in the Football League for Middlesbrough. He also made over 120 appearances in the Scottish League for Raith Rovers. He began his career in management while a player at Raith Rovers and after his retirement, he managed Football League clubs Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea.
