John Gordner
John R. Gordner (born January 5, 1962) is an American lawyer and politician. A Republican, he represented the 27th District in the Pennsylvania State Senate (2003–2022) and the 109th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1993–2003). He is a former Democrat, having switched parties in 2001. Early life Gordner earned a Juris Doctor from the Dickinson School of Law and has served as a practicing attorney. Career Gordner was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1992 and served 11 years in that body. In 2001, Gordner changed political parties from Democrat to Republican. In 2003, he won a special election to replace Ed Helfrick, who abruptly retired from the Senate earlier that year. Berwick is a borough in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is located southwest of Wilkes-Barre. As of the 2020 census, Berwick had a population of 10,355. It is one of the two principal communities of the Bloomsburg-Berwick, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, a metropolitan area that covers Columbia and Montour counties, and had a combined population of 85,562 at the 2010 census. The Wilkes University Election Statistics Project is a free online resource documenting Pennsylvania political election results dating back to 1796. Currently, the database documents Pennsylvania's county-level vote totals for President, Governor, United States Senator, and Congressional elections back to 1796. The database also contains directories for members of the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly and the Pennsylvania General Assembly, dating back to 1682. According to the database's designer, Wilkes University Professor Harold E. Cox, "No other state has anything like it." The project's impetus began in 1996, when Cox inquired about 19th century election statistics, only to find that the data would cost $1,000. The project has been cataloged by the Pennsylvania State University Libraries and the Van Pelt Library at the University of Pennsylvania.
