Ted Harris (politician)
Edward David Harris (30 August 1911 – 2 October 1993) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Harris was born at Brisbane, Queensland, the son of the Alfred Edward Harris and his wife Elizabeth Roxborough (née Smith). He was educated at Goodna, Wynnum, and Sherwood state schools. He joined the RAAF in 1940 and served in the 24th and 75th Squadrons, being discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant. On his return to Australia he worked as a clothing manufacturer at Manly, specializing in men's and boys wear. On 20 May 1942, Harris married Marion Miller Morrison and together had a beautiful daughter, also named Marion, and a son. The National Party of Australia – Queensland (NPA-Q), commonly known as Queensland Nationals, or the National Party of Queensland, was the Queensland-state branch of the National Party of Australia (NPA) until 2008. Prior to 1974, it was known as the Country Party. Formed in 1915 by the Queensland Farmers' Union (QFU) and serving as the state branch of the National Party of Australia, it initially sought to represent the interests of the farmers but over time became a more general conservative political party in the state, leading to much debate about relations with other conservative parties and a string of mergers that were soon undone. Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 7 December 1974 to elect the 82 members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The National-Liberal Coalition won a third consecutive victory under Joh Bjelke-Petersen, and the seventh consecutive victory for the National Party in Queensland, which had renamed itself from the Country Party since the previous election. The Labor Party lost two-thirds of its seats, including that of leader Perc Tucker—its worst showing in an election until 2012. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. It has been the only unicameral state legislature in the country since the upper chamber, the Legislative Council, was abolished in 1922.
