Technics (brand)
is a Japanese brand name of the Panasonic Corporation for audio equipment. Since 1965 under the brand name, Panasonic has produced a variety of high fidelity, hi-fi products, such as phonograph, turntables, electronic amplifier, amplifiers, receiver (radio), receivers, tape decks, CD players and Loudspeaker, speakers for sale in various countries. It was conceived as a line of high-end audio equipment to compete against brands such as Nakamichi. From 2002 onwards products were rebranded as Panasonic except in Japan and Commonwealth of Independent States, CIS countries (such as Russia), where the brand remained in high regard. Panasonic discontinued the brand for most products in October 2010, but it was revived in 2015 with new high-end turntables. The brand is best known for the Technics SL-1200, SL-1200 DJ turntable, an industry standard for decades. Useful art, or useful arts or technics, is concerned with the skills and methods of practical subjects such as manufacture and craftsmanship. The phrase has now gone out of fashion, but it was used during the Victorian era and earlier as an antonym to the performing art and the fine art. The term "useful Arts" is used in the United States Constitution, Article One, Section 8, Clause 8 which is the basis of United States patent and copyright law: "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries;..." According to the US Supreme Court, the phrase "useful Arts" is meant to reference inventions. There is controversy in the Court as to whether or not this includes business methods. Lego Technic is a line of Lego interconnecting plastic rods and parts. The purpose of this series is to create more advanced models with more complex technical functions, compared to the simpler brick-building properties of normal Lego. Overview The concept was introduced as the ''Expert Builder'' series and originally ''Technical Sets'' in 1977, and was renamed ''Technic'' in 1982. Technic sets are often characterized by the presence of special pieces, such as gears, axles, and pins. Other special pieces include beams and plates with holes in them, through which the axles could be installed. Some sets also come with pneumatic pieces or electric motors. In recent years, Technic pieces have begun filtering down into other Lego sets as well, including the BIONICLE sets (which were once sold as part of the Technic line), as well as a great many others. As an activity, ''technē'' is concrete, variable, and context-dependent.
