USA Roller Derby represents the United States in international roller derby, in events such as the Roller Derby World Cup. The team's first international competition was the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup, where it finished in first place after defeating Team Canada (roller derby), Team Canada in the final. During the time period referenced here, it was known as "Team USA". A trademark challenge from the United States Olympic Committee led to the change to the name "USA Roller Derby" after the team's last international appearance. 2011 Roller Derby World Cup
The 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was an international women's roller derby tournament organized by ''Blood & Thunder'' magazine. Teams of amateur skaters from around the world were fielded to compete for their respective nations. The inaugural 2011 Roller Derby World Cup was hosted by Toronto Roller Derby, and was held December 1 through 4, 2011, at Supply Depot (Toronto), The Bunker at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was won by Team USA (roller derby), Team USA, who beat Team Canada (roller derby), Team Canada by a score of 336 points to 33 in the final. London Roller Derby is a flat track roller derby league and a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). The league were founding members of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA). Steel City Roller Derby or SCRD, is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2006, the league celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2016. Steel City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Philly Roller Derby (PRD) is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2005, Philly Roller Derby is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). League history First organized as the Philly Roller Girls in 2005, the league debuted in 2006 as a four-team home league, comprising the Broad Street Butchers, the Heavy Metal Hookers, the Hostile City Honeys and the Philthy Britches. The home teams competed for a league championship called the Warrior Cup. Wasatch Roller Derby
Wasatch Roller Derby (WRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Founded in 2008, Wasatch is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization Originally emerging from the Salt City Derby Girls, the league's formation was led by Lacey "Honey" Peterson and Brandi "Medusa" Olsen. The first public Wasatch bout was held April 25, 2009 at Hollywood Connection in West Valley City. The Oly Rollers are a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Olympia, Washington. Minnesota Roller Derby (MNRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in the United States. Founded in August 2004 as Minnesota RollerGirls by the Donnelly sisters, MNRD was one of the first 30 members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) by early 2006. Windy City Rollers is a women's flat-track roller derby league located in Chicago, Illinois. Founded by Juanna Rumbel (Elizabeth Gomez) and Sister Sledgehammer (Kelly Simmons) in 2004, Windy City is the first flat-track roller derby league established in Chicago, and is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). The Gold Coast Derby Grrls (GCDG) is a roller derby league based in Broward County, Florida. Founded in 2007, the league currently consists of two teams which compete against teams from other leagues. Arizona Roller Derby is Arizona's first all female roller derby league. It was founded in 2003 making it one of the oldest resurgence roller derby leagues in America. Julie Brandt Glass (born 23 February 1979), known as Atomatrix, is a former roller derby skater, and a former competitive speed skater. Inline skating Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan as Julie Brandt, she took up inline speed skating, and won two gold medals at the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1995. She was overall sprint champion at the U.S. nationals that year, and again in 1998, also winning the Downer's Grove Championship in 1996 and 1998, and taking a gold medal at the World Cup in 1997. She took a break from skating during which she married Doug Glass, a fellow speed skater, then returned to win a silver medal at the 1999 Pan American Games. She also competed at the X Games, taking gold in the women's downhill inline skating at the 1998 event, won gold at the 2003 Pan American Games, and at the 2003 Berlin Roller Marathon.
