Team USA (Ten-pin Bowling)
The Weber Cup, named after bowling legend Dick Weber, is a men's ten-pin bowling competition between Team Europe and Team USA. The teams competing over three days in a series of singles, doubles and team (baker) matches. The Weber Cup is equivalent to the Ryder Cup in golf and the Mosconi Cup in pool. History and background The Weber Cup is the annual Europe vs United States ten-pin bowling championships and is currently broadcast live from start to finish on Sky Sports in the UK and in many other international channels around the world. It usually takes place in October every year. For the first seven events, from 2000 to 2006, 35 matches were played. Each match worth one point. The first team to 18 points won the tournament. From 2007, the tournament was reduced slightly to 33 matches, again each match is worth 1 point so the first team to 17 will win. Bill Hoffman (bowling)
Bill Hoffman (born 1971), also widely referred to as ''The Joker'', of Columbus, Ohio, United States, is a Ten-pin bowler. Hoffman, 29, finished 17th in his Bowling World Cup debut in Lisbon, Portugal, in 200 Hoffman qualified for his second Bowling World Cup in 2003 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where he rolled the only 300 in the tournament on his way to earning the top seed for the knockout elimination rounds. He eventually was eliminated in the semifinal Hoffman won the 2007 Bowling World Cup on his third try. Held in St. Petersburg, Russia, Hoffman never was out of the top 5 throughout qualifying, eventually qualifying as the second seed for the stepladder finals. He went on to defeat Andres Gomez (2-0) and Jason Belmonte (2-1) to win the title. 2007 Weber Cup
The 2007 Weber Cup, took place from October 19 to 21 at the Barnsley Metrodome. With the overall score standing at 4–3 to the Americans, there was everything to play for following the previous year's nail-biting epic which saw the destiny of the trophy decided in the final few frames of the deciding match. The Europeans were once again skippered by Sweden's Tomas Leandersson who had opted for a Nordic countries, Nordic influenced line-up which includes veteran Tore Torgersen of Norway, Professional Bowlers Association, PBA star Mika Koivuniemi (Finland) playing in his second Weber Cup and 3-time European Bowling Tour, EBT champion, Paul Moor (England). The new boy on the team was two-handed Finland, Finnish star Osku Palermaa, who at the time topped the European Bowling Tour, EBT rankings.
