TeamTennis
World TeamTennis (WTT) is a mixed-gender professional tennis league played with a team format in the United States, which was founded in 1973. The league's season normally takes place in the summer months. Players from the ATP and WTA take a break from their tour schedules to partake in World TeamTennis. WTT was the first professional sports league to grant equal status to each man and woman competing for their teams. Washington Kastles
The Washington Kastles is one of eight franchises that compete in World TeamTennis. Based in Washington, D.C., since 2008, the Kastles won the WTT championship in the 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons. The team is named for Kastle Systems, the office security company owned by team owner Mark Ein. Venue The Kastles play outdoors on the roof of Union Market at 1309 5th Street, NE, Washington, DC. The team played its 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons in a temporary stadium erected each summer on the site of the former Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington. They played the next three seasons at Kastles Stadium at The Wharf, a 2,600-seat facility erected in 2011 on the Southwest Waterfront. Orange County Breakers
The Orange County Breakers are a World TeamTennis (WTT) franchise founded in 2003, owned by Laguna Beach businessman Eric Davidson. The Breakers won the WTT Championship in 2004, 2017 and 2021. In 2014, the franchise moved to Greater Austin, Texas, where it was known as the Austin Aces. On December 14, 2015, the Aces announced that the team would move back to Orange County, California for the 2016 season and be renamed the Orange County Breakers. In 2016, the Breakers played their home matches at Breakers Stadium at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. In 2017, the Breakers returned to playing at the Palisades Tennis Club, the venue where they played from 2003 to 2006. Sacramento Capitals
The Sacramento Capitals were a team in World TeamTennis that competed from 1988 through 2013. The Capitals won six championships, including four straight from 1997 to 2000. The other titles came in 2002 and 2007. For the 2012 World TeamTennis season, the team returned to play its home matches at Capitals Stadium at Sunrise Mall. In previous years, they called the following venues home: The Westfield Galleria at Roseville, Gold River Racquet Club in Gold River, and the original ARCO Arena in the Natomas area. Move to Las Vegas On February 4, 2014, the Capitals, after 28 seasons in Sacramento, announced their move to Las Vegas. The team was renamed the Las Vegas Neon. Team tennis is a tennis tournament which consist of matches between different groups of players each competing to win the tournament for their team. The format is usually an altered version of the professionally played World TeamTennis format; consisting of both Men's and Women's matches with Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. By country It is played at the collegiate or national level in the United States. The United States Tennis Association promotes junior team tennis and USTA League Tennis. The National Collegiate Athletic Association organizes competitions such as the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship and NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship. Many regions have their own "city-based" or "area-based" for example; the CASHS tennis team teams (often backed by a professional player) with a National Championship in the US.
