Tea Tooala Peato
Tea Tooala Peato (born ~1940) is a Samoan politician. Peato is from Sa'asa'ai in the district of Faʻasaleleaga and has worked as a businessman. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Samoa at the 1982 election. He was re-elected at the 1985 election but lost his seat in 1988. After taking a break from politics he ran again at the 1996 election and was elected for another term as a member of the Samoan National Development Party The Samoan National Development Party (SNDP) was a political party in Samoa, and the country's main opposition party between 1988 and 2003. The party was formed from a merger of the Christian Democratic Party and Samoa National Party in April 1988 .... Tofa Lio Foleni
Tofa Lio Foleni (born ~1952) is a Samoan politician and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Samoa. He is a member of the Human Rights Protection Party. Tofa is from the village of Saipipi in Savai'i. He worked for the Ministry of Education for 40 years and as a businessman. 2016 Samoan General Election
General elections were held in Samoa on 4 March 2016 to determine the composition of the 16th Parliament. Two parties contested the election, the ruling Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP), led by prime minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi which had governed since 1982 and the Tautua Samoa Party, led by opposition leader Palusalue Faʻapo II. The election was held following the passage of electoral reforms, including the implementation of a parliamentary women's quota that requires the legislature to have at least five female members. Parliament also introduced electoral boundary changes in 2015, which saw the abolition of the six double-member constituencies and the individual voters' seats, the constituents of the latter included voters with partial or no Samoan ancestry and individuals not connected to a traditional village. General elections were held in Samoa on 2 March 2001 to determine the composition of the 13th Parliament. Prime minister Tuilaʻepa Saʻilele Malielegaoi led the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) into the election. Opposition leader and former prime minister and future head of state, Tui Ātua Tupua Tamasese Efi led the Samoan National Development Party (SNDP) into the election. The HRPP won 23 seats, but initially fell short of a majority. The SNDP won 13 seats, the Samoan United People's Party secured one seat and the remaining 12 were won by independents. Following the election, all 12 independents joined the HRPP, giving the party a majority in parliament and allowing Tuila'epa to remain prime minister. General elections were held in Western Samoa on 26 April 1996. The result was a victory for the Human Rights Protection Party, which won 24 of the 49 seats. The Samoan National Development Party won 11 seats, the Samoa Liberal Party 1, and independents 13. Following the elections, the 12th Samoan Parliament was sworn in on 16 May 1996. The HRRP was able to form a government with the support of 10 independent MPs.
