Te Aponga Uira
Te Aponga Uira O Tumu-Te-Varovaro (TAU) is a Cook Islands electricity generator, distributor and retailer which provides electricity to the island of Rarotonga. It is responsible for 90% of the Cook Islands' electricity generation. It is a state-owned enterprise, wholly owned by the Cook Islands Government through the Cook Islands Investment Corporation. Te Aponga Uira was established by the ''Te Aponga Uira O Tumu-Te-Varovaro Act 1991''. Structured as a perpetual body corporate, it has the statutory objectives of "provid ngenergy to all consumers in a reliable and economical manner" while operating in "an efficient and profitable manner having due regard to the interests of the community". This is the fourth major step in the electricity delivery process, which also includes generation, transmission and distribution. Rarotonga is the largest and most populous of the Cook Islands. Te Mana O Te Ra Solar Farm
Te Mana O Te Ra ("The Power of The Sun") is a photovoltaic power station at Rarotonga International Airport in the Cook Islands. It is the largest solar power station in the Cook Islands. It is owned and operated by Te Aponga Uira. The array consists of 3051 solar panels and has a peak output of 960 kW. It was funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and constructed between June and September 2014 by New Zealand company Infratec Renewables Ltd. It was commissioned by Cook Islands Prime Minister Henry Puna in October 2014. In 2017 the farm was upgraded by the addition of a 5.6 MWh battery storage system. Net metering (or net energy metering, NEM) is an electricity billing mechanism that allows consumers who generate some or all of their own electricity to use that electricity anytime, instead of when it is generated.
