Taylorville is a locality in the Riverland region of South Australia. It is on the north (right) bank of the Murray River opposite Waikerie, South Australia, Waikerie and several smaller settlements. The locality is predominantly between the Goyder Highway and the Murray River, with several small areas on the other side of the highway. Pooginook’s boundaries were created on 28 September 2000 for the “local established name” which is derived from the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Pooginook in which it occupies the south-western corner. Lowbank is a locality in South Australia's riverland. It is between the Sturt Highway and the left (south) bank of the Murray River east of Waikerie. The highway is over higher elevation than the river level, but only a kilometre away. Lowbank has a slope rather than a cliff. Where there are relatively flat areas on the high ground, they are used for vineyards, however much of Lowbank is natural scrub on the slope. There are several historic landing sites along the river in Lowbank. Lowbank Primary School opened in 1915, but is now closed. The boundaries of Lowbank include the Island Flat shack site. The Sturt Highway passes to the south of the town at the top of the cliffs. There is a cable ferry crossing the river to provide vehicle access from the north side of the river. Waikerie is known for citrus growing, along with stone fruit and grapes. Background The Ngawait people have inhabited the area for millennia. Holder is a locality in the Riverland region of South Australia. It lies on the inside of a bend in the Murray River east (upstream) of Waikerie. Holder is bounded on the south side by the Sturt Highway and includes the Waikerie Airport and Maize Island Lagoon Conservation Park. The locality includes low-lying wetlands near river level and rising and higher ground up to the level at the top of the Murray cliffs where the airport and highway are. The sloping and higher ground is used for vineyards and fruit orchards, irrigated from the river. The school opened in 1925 and closed in 1991. Holder Settlement was established in 1894 and continued as a Village Settlement when that legislation was introduced. Stuart is a locality in the Riverland region of South Australia. Nomenclature Stuart gets its name from the Hundred of Stuart, which in turn was named after John McDouall Stuart in 1860. The locality boundary is almost identical to the hundred boundary, except that the southeastern part of the Hundred is in the locality of Taylorville and the southwestern corner of the hundred in the locality of Morgan.
