Taylor Canfield
Taylor Canfield (born February 5, 1989) is a United States Virgin Islands sailor competing in match racing. He won the ICSA Match Racing National Championship with Boston College in 2010 and 2011, and the 2013 World Match Racing Tour and became 2013 World Champion in match racing. Canfield was widely expected to skipper the Stars & Stripes Team USA America's Cup campaign as the designated sailing representative of California’s Long Beach Yacht Club; however, that team withdrew prior to the commencement of the Prada Cup The Prada Cup is the name of the Challenger Selection Series - a sailing competition to determine the Challenger that will earn the right to challenge the Defender for the conquest of the America's Cup. J/70 is a Trailer sailer, trailerable, American sailboat class designed by Alan Johnstone (naval architect), Alan Johnstone and first built in 2012. Production The boat is built for J Boats by three builders, CCF Composites in the United States, J/Composites in Europe and J/Boats Argentina in South America. America's Cup
The America's Cup, informally known as the Auld Mug, is a trophy awarded in the sport of sailing. It is the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. America's Cup match races are held between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger). Matches are held several years apart on dates agreed between the defender and the challenger. There is no fixed schedule, but the races have generally been held every three to four years. The most recent America's Cup match took place in March 2021. World Match Racing Tour
Founded in 2000, the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) features world class sailors including America’s Cup and Olympic champions, in a global championship series. WMRT is sanctioned with ‘Special Event Status’ by World Sailing, the sport’s world governing body. The winner of the WMRT each year is crowned official Match Racing World Champion. Teams compete in different boats at from stage to stage of the World Match Racing Tour, however the boats supplied at each event are identical. Teams rotate boats throughout the event.
