Taxandria (film)
''Taxandria'' is a partially animated fantasy film by Raoul Servais, collaborating on a script with Frank Daniel and French writer Alain Robbe-Grillet, and starring, among others, Armin Mueller-Stahl. Being Servais's first and to date only feature film, ''Taxandria'' is notable for the use of Servais's distinct animation style, the ''servaisgraphie'', as well as its connection to the Belgian graphic novel series '' Les Cités Obscures'' whose creator François Schuiten was the film's production designer. Plot Young prince Jan has been sent to a quiet coastal resort to study for his final exams, but instead he spends most of his time with his new friend, the lighthouse keeper. Jan ignores the warnings of the locals who claim that the loony lighthouse man (Armin Mueller-Stahl) eats seagulls for breakfast. Raoul Servais
Raoul Servais (born 1 May 1928) is a Belgian filmmaker, animator, and comics artist. He was born in Ostend, Belgium, and is a fundamental figure of the Belgian animation scene, as well as the founder of the animation faculty of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK). Servais received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Festival of Animated Film - Animafest Zagreb in 2016. He is best known for the 1979 animated film, ''Harpya''. At the 9th Magritte Awards, he received an Honorary Magritte Award from the Académie André Delvaux. Kecskemét Animation Film Festival () (KAFF) is an animated film festival held biennially during the month of June in Kecskemét, Hungary. Although the bulk of the festival is oriented toward efforts in Hungarian animation, the associated KAFF-sponsored Festival of European Animated Feature Films and TV Specials () has opened the festival to international works as well. The festival was first held in 1985 and was opened to international works of animation in 1996. History The history of Hungarian animation has been tied to the city of Kecskemét since 1971 when the Budapest-based state-run monopoly, Pannónia Film Studio, was granted the right to form a subsidiary studio named Kecskeméti Animációs Filmstúdió. Toxandri
The Texandri (also Texuandri; later Toxandri, Toxiandri, Taxandri) were a Germanic people living between the Scheldt and Rhine rivers in the 1st century AD. They are associated with a region mentioned in the late 4th century as Texandria (also Toxiandria; later Toxandria, Taxandria), a name which survived into the 8th–12th centuries. Name Attestations The only inscription that convincingly mentions the name is dated 100–225 AD and gives the form ''Texand(ri)''. It was found on an altar in Brocolitia (Carrowburgh Fort) near Hadrian's Wall. A more uncertain inscription from Romania dated 102/103 AD reads ''Texu'', and they are also mentioned as ''Texuandri'' by Pliny (1st c. AD), which may suggest that the two forms ''Texuandri'' and ''Texandri'' co-existed already in the late-1st and 2nd centuries AD. Camerimage
The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography Camerimage () is a festival dedicated to the celebration of cinematography and recognition of its creators, cinematographers. The first seven events (1993–1999) were held in Toruń, Poland. The next ten events (2000–2009) were held in Łódź. From 2010 until 2018 the festival took place in Bydgoszcz, before returning to Toruń in 2019, where it currently remains. In 2007, the name of the festival was changed from Camerimage to Plus Camerimage but was changed back in 2013 after the sponsorship deal with Plus ended. At the end of November every year, Camerimage brings together professional cinematographers, students and other people associated with the film industry. The Camerimage festival spans over a course of one week, with multiple events at one time.
