Tauber Valley Railway
The Tauber Valley Railway (German: ''Taubertalbahn'') is a single-tracked, unelectrified, standard gauge railway between Wertheim am Main, Wertheim and Crailsheim in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It runs alongside the Tauber to Weikersheim, then along the Vorbach (Tauber, Weikersheim), Vorbach and Blaubach (Jagst), Blaubach rivers. It is recorded in the timetable as route no. 782. Until 9 December 2006 it had been route no. 788. History After the completion of surveys of the area in 1858, work for the Tauber Valley Railway started in 1864 with the survey of the route. Actual construction of the Tauber Valley Railway began in October 1866 on the Lauda-Königshofen, Lauda–Wertheim am Main, Wertheim section and in August 1868 construction began on the Bad Mergentheim, Mergentheim–Crailsheim section, which cost almost 16 million South German gulden, gulden. Tauber
The Tauber () is a river in Franconia (Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria), Germany. It is a left tributary of the Main and is in length. The name derives from the Celtic word for water (compare: Dover). It flows through Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Creglingen, Weikersheim, Bad Mergentheim, Königshofen, Tauberbischofsheim, and flows into the river Main in Wertheim am Main. The Tauber Valley Cycleway is a bicycle path which runs about 101 km along the course of the river. There is a medieval bridge over the river near Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
