Tatvan
Tatvan ( ) is a city on the western shore of Lake Van. It is the chief city of Tatvan District within Bitlis Province in eastern Turkey, and has about 96,000 inhabitants. The current Mayor is Mehmet Emin Geylani ( AKP). The district is fully Kurdish. History The citadel at Eski Tatvan possibly dates back to the Urartian period; it was used until at least the 17th century. Sayf al-Dawla, the Hamdanid emir of Aleppo, visited Tatvan in 939/40; while he was here, he received the submission of the Armenian prince Ashot III of Taron. The town was historically a stage on the route from Van to Bitlis. By the 20th century, though, Tatvan had dwindled to a mere village, little more than "a cluster of houses by a jetty". It only developed back into a town until transport links improved around mid-century, with the construction of the railway in the 1950s and the improvement of the road to Van in 1964. Tatvan Pier Railway Station
Tatvan Pier railway station ( tr, Tatvan İskele istasyonu) is a railway station and pier in Tatvan, Turkey. Situated on the western shore of Lake Van, the station serves as a connection between modes of transport, with two slips carrying a total of seven tracks. TCDD Taşımacılık operates a ferry between Tatvan and Van, which carries passengers freight railcars and vehicles across the lake. Up until July 2015, the Trans-Asia Express, from Ankara, stopped at the station. Passengers would travel to Van via ferry, where the eastern half of the train would continue to Tehran, Iran. Lake Van Ferry
The Lake Van Ferry ( tr, Van Gölü Feribotu) is a passenger ferry service operated by the Turkish State Railways. It runs in Lake Van between Van and Tatvan. Ferry service began operations in 1971, when a railway from Van to Iran Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, and also called Persia, is a country located in Western Asia. Nemrut (volcano)
Nemrut ( tr, Nemrut Dağı, hy, Սարակն ''Sarakn'', "Mountain spring", , ku, Çiyayê Nemrudê) is a dormant volcano in Eastern Turkey, close to Lake Van. The volcano is named after King Nimrod who is said to have ruled this area in about 2100 BC. The most powerful eruptions of Nemrut occurred in the Pleistocene. Many small eruptions occurred during the Holocene, the last in 1650. The top of the volcano is a large caldera hosting three crater lakes. Van ( hy, Վան; ku, Wan) is a mostly Kurdish-populated and historically Armenian-populated city in eastern Turkey's Van Province. The city lies on the eastern shore of Lake Van. Bitlis
Bitlis ( hy, Բաղեշ '; ku, Bidlîs; ota, بتليس) is a city in southeastern Turkey and the capital of Bitlis Province. The city is located at an elevation of 1,545 metres, 15 km from Lake Van, in the steep-sided valley of the Bitlis River, a tributary of the Tigris. The local economy is mainly based on agricultural products which include fruits, grain and tobacco. Industry is fairly limited, and deals mainly with leatherworking, manufacture of tobacco products as well as weaving and dyeing of coarse cloth. Bitlis Province ( tr, , , ku, Parêzgeha Bidlîsê) is a province of eastern Turkey, located to the west of Lake Van. The province is considered part of Western Armenia by Armenians.
