Tasty (nightclub)
The Tasty nightclub raid was an incident on 7 August 1994 during which 463 mostly LGBTIQ+ patrons of the Tasty nightclub event in Melbourne, Australia were detained for seven hours, strip searched and cavity searched by members of Victoria Police. A class action ensued, resulting a total payout of around A$6 million to the complainants, and in 1994 Acting Chief Commissioner Lucinda Nolan apologised to the LGBTQI community. The event has been noted as "Australia's Stonewall", referring to the gay uprising after police raided a club in 1969 in New York. Jeff Kennett
Jeffrey Gibb Kennett (born 2 March 1948) is a former Australian politician who was the 43rd Premier of Victoria between 1992 and 1999, and currently a media commentator. He was previously the president of the Hawthorn Football Club, serving from 2005 to 2011 and again from 2017 to 2022. He is the founding Chairman of beyondblue, a national organisation "working to reduce the impact of depression and anxiety in the community". New South Wales Police Force Strip Search Scandal
The New South Wales Police Force strip search scandal refers to an ongoing policing scandal surrounding the routine and arbitrary use of strip searches by members of the New South Wales Police Force. Particular concern has centred around the use of strip searches "in the field", the term used by NSW Police to describe the practice of conducting strip searches outside of a police station. Following the introduction of a controversial law in 2001, police in New South Wales were given the power to deploy specially trained drug detection dogs at large scale public events, licensed venues, and on selected routes across Sydney's public transport network. In 2006, a review published by the New South Wales Ombudsman found that there were significant issues relating to their use, including civil liberties concerns, false positives, and low rates of accuracy. Esben Storm (26 May 1950 – 28 March 2011) was a Danish Australian actor, screenwriter, television producer, television director, voice artist and songwriter. He was well known for his work with the Australian Children's Television Foundation, headed by Patricia Edgar, where he worked for 15 years. Stephen MacLean (1950 – April 2006) was Australian screenwriter, journalist, broadcaster, and director of films and television series. His best known work is a biography of Peter Allen which was adapted to create the hit musical ''The Boy from Oz'', and wrote the script of the 1982 semi-autobiographical film '' Starstruck''.
