Tassaert Family
The Tassaert family was a family, originating in Antwerp, which produced a number of painters, sculptors, illustrators and art dealers, some of whom later settled or worked in France and Prussia in the 17th and 18th centuries. An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating an art. Joseph Beer (clarinetist)
Joseph Beer (18 May 1744, , Bohemia – 28 October 1812, Berlin) was one of the first internationally famous clarinet virtuosos, with connections to many major composers of the era. Beer served as trumpeter first in the Austrian and then in the French army during the Seven Years' War. In 1771 he went to Paris, and there took up the clarinet, on which he rapidly became the first major performer of his time. In 1782 he left Paris, and traveled through Holland, Italy, Russia, and Hungary. As a performer Beer effected a complete revolution in the clarinet, which he greatly improved by the addition of a fifth key. Until aged nearly fifty he had heard only French players, but having heard in Brussels a German performer, Schwartz, he discovered the instrument's tonal capabilities, and finally became as celebrated for the softness and purity of his tone, for the delicacy of his nuances, and especially his decrescendo, as he was for his execution. The Academy of Arts (german: Akademie der Künste) is a state arts institution in Berlin, Germany. The task of the Academy is to promote art, as well as to advise and support the states of Germany. Henriette-Félicité Tassaert (born 4 May 1766 in Paris; died 8 June 1818 in Berlin) was a German painter of Flemish extraction. Biography Born in Paris, Tassaert was a member of the Tassaert family of artists. She was the daughter of sculptor Jean-Pierre-Antoine Tassaert and miniaturist Marie-Edmée Moreau, who were her first teachers. She then trained at the Prussian Academy of Arts, studying under Johann Christoph Frisch, Anton Graff, and Daniel Chodowiecki, whose letters remain an important source of information about her biography. While there she also came to know the work of the pastellist , who was also an engraver and who had produced prints after some of her father's work; she in turn engraved Darbes' portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm II. She planned to travel to Dresden for further study, but the trip required the consent of Frederick the Great, who refused, and she did not visit that city until 1787, after his death.
