Tasman Football Association
The Tasman Football Association was an Australian rules football competition in Tasmania, Australia. The association had origins back to 1902 when games were played at random. In 1919 a proper association was set up. The association went into recess during World War II but returned. The association folded 2001 with the Dodges Ferry Sharks moving to the Southern Football League while the Swansea Football Club and Triabunna Football Club moved to the Oatlands District Football Association (ODFA) a year prior. Campania folded but reformed in 2007 and joined the ODFA. History The Tasman Football Association was officially formed in 1910 but games had been played from approximately 1902 in the area. The teams in the first year of the competition were Wedge Bay, Nubeena, Carnarvon, Koonya and Fortescue Bay. The first premiership was won by Koonya who defeated Nubeena in the grand final. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Dodges Ferry Sharks
The Dodges Ferry Football Club, nicknamed ''The Sharks'', is an Australian rules football club based in the Hobart suburb of Dodges Ferry. The club currently plays in the Southern Football League (SFL) in Tasmania, Australia. The club wears a red, yellow and black jumper and has the mascot the Sharks. The Southern Football League is an Australian rules football league based in Tasmania, Australia. History Beginning and growth The Southern Tasmanian Football League (STFL) was founded in 1996. The league's original clubs were those of the recently defunct Tasmanian Amateur Football League (Southern Division) (Southern Amateurs) and two clubs from the Huon Football Association. In the first season, the competing clubs from the Tasmanian Amateur Football League (Southern Division) were Mangalore (Brighton), Lauderdale, Lindisfarne, Claremont, Sorell and Lachlan, and those from the Huon Football Association were Kingston (Kingborough) and Channel. Oatlands District Football Association
The Oatlands District Football Association (ODFA) is a non-professional Australian rules football league located in Tasmania, Australia. Oatlands District Football Association origins: 1952–1999 On Monday 24 March 1952 a meeting was held at the Parattah Hotel, with the aim being to form a local football competition, the meeting was attended by representatives from Tunbridge, Woodsdale and Parattah. When the competition was formed it aimed to give players of the Oatlands Municipality, who could not be absorbed into the Midlands Football Association, an opportunity to play football. The three clubs affiliated with the Oatlands District Football Competition, and football commenced on 19 April 1952, with Woodsdale defeating Parattah 3.7 (25) to 2.3 (15). Parattah's coach for the first season was Max Kelly, Tunbridge had Ken Gourlay in charge, and Cyril Payne was the first ever coach of Woodsdale. Australian rules football in Tasmania (known locally as "football"), has been played since the late 1870s and draws the largest audience for a football code in the state. While support for the Australian Football League competition remains in the state, and population growth has exceeded the national average, Australian rules football at the grassroots has been in freefall since 2006. The number of participants halved during the 2000s and has not recovered since.
