Pumped-storage
Pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), or pumped hydroelectric energy storage (PHES), is a type of hydroelectric energy storage used by electric power systems for load balancing. The method stores energy in the form of gravitational potential energy of water, pumped from a lower elevation reservoir to a higher elevation. Low-cost surplus off-peak electric power is typically used to run the pumps. During periods of high electrical demand, the stored water is released through turbines to produce electric power. Although the losses of the pumping process make the plant a net consumer of energy overall, the system increases revenue by selling more electricity during periods of peak demand, when electricity prices are highest. If the upper lake collects significant rainfall or is fed by a river then the plant may be a net energy producer in the manner of a traditional hydroelectric plant. Pumped-storage hydroelectricity allows energy from intermittent sources (such as solar, wind ...

Yuzhnoukrainsk
Yuzhnoukrainsk (, ) is a city on the Southern Bug river, in Voznesensk Raion, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine, about 350 kilometers (over 200 miles) south of the capital Kyiv. It hosts the administration of Yuzhnoukrainsk urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: History Yuzhnoukrainsk was founded in 1976. It is one of the youngest Ukrainian towns. Until 18 July 2020, Yuzhnoukrainsk was incorporated as a city of oblast significance. In July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Mykolaiv Oblast to four, the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk was merged into Voznesensk Raion. Had the Russian-held Mykolaiv Military–Civilian Administration pushed northwards capturing Nova Odesa and Voznesensk, Yuzhnoukrainsk will be the ''de jure'' capital of the oblast. Industry A dam and hydroelectric power station of the Tashlyk Pumped-Storage Power Plant is south of the city. South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, also known as Yuzhnouk ...

History During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army invaded the province from Kherson Oblast, attacking as far northwest as Voznesensk. However, at Voznesensk, the Russian forces were repulsed, and the attempt to take Mykolaiv also ended in failure. From April 2022, almost all of the province was under Ukrainian control, apart from the extreme south-east and the Kinburn peninsula. When Russia annexed Kherson Oblast in September 2022, it incorporated the occupied areas of Mykolaiv Oblast. A Ukrainian military official announced a Russian withdrawal from Mykolaiv Oblast on 10 November 2022. On 4-5 Ju ...

South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant
The South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant ( uk, Південноукраїнська АЕС), also known as the Pivdennoukrainsk Nuclear Power Plant, is a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, near the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk in Mykolaiv Oblast, about south of Kyiv. It is the second largest of the country's five nuclear power stations. It is part of the South Ukrainian Energy Complex, along with the Tashlyk Pumped-Storage Power Plant and Oleksandrivska hydroelectric power station. It has three VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors and a net generation capacity of 2,850 megawatts (MW). In 2013, following major upgrade work, unit 1 was given a 10-year license extension, which will take it beyond its original 30-year design lifetime. Similar extensions are planned for units 2 and 3, licensed until 2015 and 2019, respectively. The Vetrino–Isaccea–Yuzhnoukrainsk powerline runs from the plant to Isaccea, Romania, but is mostly dismantled or ruined. According to Ukraine, Russian troops we ...

Hydroelectricity In Ukraine
Hydroelectricity in Ukraine is quite developed branch of power engineering. State operating company is Ukrhydroenergo and Energoatom. Design of main power plants is carried out by . General characteristics In the energy sector of Ukraine, hydroelectric power-plants occupy the third place after thermal (coal and natural-gas) and atomic energy. The total installed capacity of the Ukrainian hydroelectric power stations is currently 8% of the total capacity of the combined energy-system of the country. The average annual output of electric power by hydroelectric power stations is 10.8 billion kWh. The economic and technical potential of the hydropower resources of Ukraine comprise about 20 billion kWh, and no more than 50% is used. The main used potential is concentrated on the hydroelectric power stations of the Dnipro cascade (capacity - 3.8 GW, output - 9.9 GWh • h): Dnieper Hydroelectric Station, Kiev Pumped Storage Power Plant (HPSP), Tashlyk HPSP. In addition to hydroe ...
