Tarja Owens
Tarja Owens, from Delgany, County Wicklow, Ireland), is an Irish former competitive mountain biker and road racer, who competed in the Sydney Olympic Games of 2000 and later became the first female professional Irish cyclist. Career Early career Owens comes from Delgany, near Greystones, Co. Wicklow. Her uncle, Peter Doyle, was an active international competitive cyclist. She was Irish Ladies mountain biking champion six times, and rode in a range of national and international MTB and road races, including stage events and the World Championships. She was then selected to ride at the Sydney Olympic Games, with funding of 3000 euro a year from the Sports Council and earnings as a gym instructor. Delgany
Delgany () is a small rural village in County Wicklow in Ireland, located on the R762 road which connects to the N11 road at the Glen of the Downs. It is about south of Dublin city centre. While it is an older more rural settlement, it is closely connected to the urban area of Greystones. The area is surrounded by wooded hills (including Kindlestown Wood) and the Glen of the Downs. Delgany has a Church of Ireland parish church which is associated with the nearby Delgany National School. It is also in the Roman Catholic parish of Kilquade and the parish church is in Kilquade about to the south. The local Catholic school is St Laurence's National School which is on Convent Road. Heritage The Old Burial Ground is an early Christian settlement dating back to the 7th century. Martin Earley
Martin Earley (born 15 June 1962) is a former Irish professional road bicycle racer, who competed in the 1984 and 1996 Olympic Games. Racing career He turned professional in 1985 with the Fagor team with whom he stayed until 1987. In 1986 he won the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia and the second of the Tour of the Basque Country. In 1987, he was part of the Irish team at the world road championship that ended with a win by Stephen Roche. After that he rode for Kas and then the Dutch PDM team of Sean Kelly. The highlight of his career was a stage win in the 1989 Tour de France when he broke clear of three riders 750m from the end of 157 km from Labastide-d'Armagnac to Pau. Earley completed five of his eight Tours; his highest finish was 44th in 1989. Robin Seymour (cyclist)
Robin Seymour (born 6 April 1971) is an Irish professional and three-time Olympic cross-country mountain bike and cyclo cross racer who rides for the WORC (Wicklow Off Road Club) team. Seymour is a former motorbike racer who turned to cycling. Seymour has dominated mountain biking and cyclo-cross in Ireland and has been Irish mountain bike champion a total of 20 times, including 15 times consecutively between 1993 and 2008 and 18 times the Irish cyclo-cross champion. Roundwood, historically known as Tóchar ( ga, an Tóchar , meaning 'the causeway'), is a village in County Wicklow, Ireland. It was listed as having a population of 948 in the 2016 census. Geography Roundwood is located where the R755 road joins the R764 and R765. The R755 is part of the main route from Dublin to Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains. At 238 metres above sea level, Roundwood is one of the highest villages in Ireland. Vartry Reservoir Lakes (reservoirs built in the 1860s) are close by.
