Tarcoola is a town in the Far North of South Australia north-northwest of Port Augusta. At the , Tarcoola had no people living within its boundaries. ''Tarcoola'' was named after ''Tarcoola'' the winner of the 1893 Melbourne Cup horse race. The horse ''Tarcoola'' had been raised on ''Tarcoola Station'' on the Darling River in New South Wales. It means ''river bend'' in the aboriginal language of the area around that Tarcoola Station. History Tarcoola lies on Kokata land. The Tarcoola Goldfield was discovered and named in 1893, but it was in an isolated arid area, and there was little development until 1900. A Post Office opened on 18 August 1900 and the town was proclaimed on 21 February 1901. The goldfield's heyday was from about 1901 to 1918. A government battery was built to process ore from small mines. Between 1901 and 1954 the field produced about 77,000oz (2.4 tonnes) of gold, most of it from the Tarcoola Blocks mine. Alice Springs Railway Station
Alice Springs railway station is located on the Adelaide–Darwin railway in Alice Springs. History The original Alice Springs station opened in Railway Terrace in 1929, when the Central Australia Railway opened. A freight yard was located on what is now Murray Neck's shopping complex. The present station opened on 9 October 1980 when a new line opened from Tarcoola. The station was included in the sale of Australian National's passenger operations to Great Southern Rail on 1 November 1997. It served as the terminus of the line until it was extended to Darwin in February 2004. Crystal Brook, South Australia
Crystal Brook is a town in the Mid North of South Australia, 197 kilometres north of the capital, Adelaide. In 2016, the population of the town/postcode was 1,935. Crystal Brook is in a very picturesque location, being at the start of the Flinders Ranges. The town has multiple viewing points and parks. It was named after the spring-fed creek next to which it was founded. Crystal Brook is the second largest town after the city of Port Pirie in the Southern Flinders Ranges area.
