Tara Llanes
Tara Janelle Llanes (born November 28, 1976 in West Covina, California United States) is a Bicycle Motocross (BMX) racer and a wheelchair basketball player whose prime competitive years were from 1990-1993. She became a champion Mountain Bike (MTB) racer. She later played wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball for Canada. Her surname is pronounced "Yaw-ness" but for obvious reasons it is often mispronounced "lanes" as in the type of division of a pathway. West Covina is a suburban city in Los Angeles County, California, located east of Downtown Los Angeles in the eastern San Gabriel Valley and is part of Greater Los Angeles. Motocross World Championship
FIM Motocross World Championship is the premier championship of motocross racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), divided into two distinct classes: MXGP and MX2. Race duration is 30 minutes plus two laps per race. The series runs 18 events with two races per class at each round. History The FIM Motocross World Championship is a worldwide motocross series sanctioned by the F.I.M. It was inaugurated in 1957 using a 500 cc engine displacement formula. In 1962 a 250cc class was added and in 1975, a 125cc class was introduced. Prior to 1957, the championship was known as the European Championship. 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship
The 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship was held at the Edel-optics.de Arena in Hamburg, Germany, from 16 to 26 August 2018. Both men's and women's tournaments were held, with 12 women's and 16 men's teams competing, representing 19 different nations. Each team selected 12 players for the tournament. The men's competition was won by Great Britain, with the United States winning silver and Australia winning bronze. The women's competition was won by the Netherlands, with Great Britain winning silver and the host nation winning bronze. Medallists This was the best ever performance at a wheelchair basketball world championship by both the British men's and women's teams. Richard Peter (Paralympian)
Richard "Bear" Peter (born September 10, 1972) is a Canadian First Nations wheelchair basketball player. Peter was born in Duncan, British Columbia, and currently resides in Vancouver. When Richard was four years old, he was injured in a bus accident, leaving him in a wheelchair ever since. He began playing wheelchair basketball at the age of 15 when he was inspired by a team that came to his school and introduced him to wheelchair sports. Since then, Peter has competed in the 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games, winning the gold metal for wheelchair basketball for three of those years. Personal life Richard Peter grew up in British Columbia's largest First Nations community, the Cowichan Tribes reserve and he became a paraplegic when he was run over by a bus at the age of four. Amanda Yan
Amanda Yan (born May 22, 1988) is a Canadian 3.0 point wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis player who won a gold medal at the 2014 Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Toronto. She was also a national champion in shot put in 2012. Biography Amanda Yan was born in Burnaby, British Columbia, on May 22, 1988. She attended Burnaby Central Secondary School, where as a teenager she was an active athlete who played basketball, volleyball and track and field athletics. She then became a student at Simon Fraser University. On April 19, 2008, Yan was snowboarding at Whistler, British Columbia, when the edge of her snowboard became caught on a cat track, causing her to slide off the Crystal Road run — rated a beginner's run — and fall off a cliff.
