Tar Township
Tar Tajik Township ( zh, s=塔尔塔吉克族乡; ug, تار تاجىك يېزىسى) is an ethnic township for Chinese Tajiks in Akto County, in Xinjiang, China. Located in the southernmost part of the county, the township covers an area of 1,009.7 square kilometers with a population of 5,408 (as of 2015). It has 8 administrative villages under its jurisdiction. Its seat is Bag Village (). Name The name "Tar" is from the Sarikoli language and means "narrow". The township was so-named because it is located in a narrow river valley in the mountains. Geography and resources Tar is the southernmost township of Akto County, located in the western Kunlun Mountains. It is bordered by Qarlung Township to the north and east, and Taxkorgan County to the south and west. It has an area of 1,009.7 square kilometers with 422.59 hectares of arable land. Sarikoli Language
The Sarikoli language (also Sariqoli, Selekur, Sarikul, Sariqul, Sariköli) is a member of the Pamir languages, Pamir subgroup of the Eastern Iranian languages, Southeastern Iranian languages spoken by Tajiks of Xinjiang, Tajiks in China. It is officially referred to in China as the "Tajik language", although it is different from the related Tajik language, Iranian language spoken in Tajikistan, which is considered a dialect of Persian. Akto Town () is a town and the county seat of Akto County in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. Located in the northeast of the county, the town covers an area of 136 square kilometers with a population of 21,560 (as of 2017). It has 19 communities and 9 villages under its jurisdiction, its seat is at ''Gongbaitierik'' (). Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County
Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County (also known as Taxkorgan County, sometimes spelled Tashkurgan, Tashkorgan and Tash Kurghan Tadzhik Autonomous Hsien) is an autonomous county of Kashgar Prefecture in Western Xinjiang, China. The county seat is the town of Tashkurgan. The county is the only Tajik autonomous county in China. Qarlung

Kunlun Mountains
The Kunlun Mountains ( zh, s=昆仑山, t=崑崙山, p=Kūnlún Shān, ; ug, كۇئېنلۇن تاغ تىزمىسى / قۇرۇم تاغ تىزمىسى ) constitute one of the longest mountain chains in Asia, extending for more than . In the broadest sense, the chain forms the northern edge of the Tibetan Plateau south of the Tarim Basin. The exact definition of Kunlun Mountains varies over time. Older sources used Kunlun to mean the mountain belt that runs across the center of China, that is, Altyn Tagh along with the Qilian and Qin Mountains. Recent sources have the Kunlun range forming most of the south side of the Tarim Basin and then continuing east, south of the Altyn Tagh.
