''Tapasya'' ( hi, तपस्या, en, Penance) is a 1976 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film produced by Tarachand Barjatya for Rajshree Productions. The film is directed by Anil Ganguly, based on story by veteran Bengali novelist Ashapurna Devi. The film stars Raakhee, Parikshat Sahni, Lalita Pawar, Nazir Hussain, A. K. Hangal, and Asrani. The film's music is by Ravindra Jain. It won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for the year. It was remade in Telugu as ''Sandhya'' in 1980 starring Sujatha in the title role. Anil Ganguly
Anil Ganguly (26 January 1933 – 15 January 2016) was an Indian film director and screenwriter, who worked in Hindi cinema from 1970s to 2001. He is best known for Jaya Bhaduri starrer, ''Kora Kagaz'' (1974) and the Rakhee Gulzar, Rakhee starrer ''Tapasya (1976 film), Tapasya'' (1975), both of which won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. He is also known for his films with Rakhee like Trishna (1978 film), Trishna, Aanchal (1980 film), Aanchal, Saaheb (1985). Later in his career, after 1986 he made seven films none of which succeeded. Career Ganguly started his career making literary adaptations with strong female roles and themes of marital discord. Rakhee Gulzar
Raakhee Gulzar (born Rakhee Majumdar on 15 August 1947 and known as Raakhee) is an Indian actress who has appeared in many Hindi films and Bengali films as well. In four decades of acting, she has won three Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award, apart from many other awards. Kishore Kumar
Kishore Kumar (born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly (); 4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987) was an Indian playback singer and actor. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest, most influential and dynamic singers in the history of Indian music. He was one of the most popular singers in the Indian subcontinent, notable for his yodeling and ability to sing songs in different voices. Hemlata (singer)
Hemlata (born 16 August 1954) is an Indian classically trained playback singer in Bollywood. She is best known for her songs in the late 1970s, especially Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se song. She was nominated for Filmfare Best Female Playback Award five times in the period of 1977–81 and won once for Chitchor in 1977 for her classical rendition of "Tu Jo Mere Sur Mein" which was duet with K.J.
