Tanz im August (; "Dance in August") is an annual festival for contemporary dance in Berlin. It was founded by Nele Hertling in West Berlin in 1988, and is now presented by the Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) theatre company on various stages in Berlin. It presents companies from all over the world with their new choreography, aesthetics and formats, new projects by Berlin artists, collaboration with international guests, and co-production for world premieres and German premieres. Hebbel Am Ufer
The Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) is a theater and international performance center based in Berlin. It was founded by combining three theaters in Kreuzberg, Berlin: Hebbel Theater (now called HAU1), Theater am Halleschen Ufer (theater at Hallesches Ufer) (now called HAU2) and Theater am Ufer (now called HAU3). Annemie Vanackere has been its artistic director since 2012. Its founding director was Matthias Lilienthal, who also invented the international best-selling theater project " X Homes" (also known as " X Apartments"). Bettina Masuch
Bettina Masuch (born 1964) is a German dramaturg and theatre director as well as artistic director at the Festspielhaus St. Pölten. Life and work Born in Solingen, Masuch studied German language and literature, philosophy and applied theatre studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. After engagements as a dramaturg at the Kaaitheater in Brussels and at the , she moved to the Berlin Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in 1998 and worked there as a dramaturg for productions by Frank Castorf, Christoph Schlingensief and René Pollesch. Dorky Park
Dorky Park is a dance company from Berlin, created and directed by choreographer Constanza Macras. Initially, between 1997 and 2003, the dance troupe was called Tamagotchi Y2K. Constanza Macras was born in Buenos Aires, where she studied dance and fashion design. María José Ribot (born 19 July 1962), known as La Ribot, is a dancer, choreographer and visual artist. Her projects are based on movement, the body and her own experiences in dance, but she also uses other practices, systems and materials that her concepts generate. She is the main interpreter of her works while she also often creates the costumes, objects and scenery. With more than 45 works under her belt, including choreographies, installations and videos, La Ribot continues to find interest in living art, in the human body and its capacity for poetic, subversive and political expression. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker
Anne Teresa, Baroness De Keersmaeker (, born 1960 in Mechelen, Belgium, grew up in Wemmel) is a contemporary dance choreographer. The dance company constructed around her, , was in residence at La Monnaie in Brussels from 1992 to 2007. Biography De Keersmaeker did not study dance until her last year of high school, instead studying music, specifically the flute. She studied from 1978 to 1980 at Mudra in Brussels, a school with links to La Monnaie and to Maurice Béjart's Ballet of the 20th Century. Deborah Hay
Deborah Hay (born 1941 in Brooklyn, New York) is a choreographer, dancer, dance theorist, and author working in the field of experimental postmodern dance. She is one of the original founders of the Judson Dance Theater. Hay's signature slow and minimal dance style was informed by a trip to Japan while touring with Merce Cunningham's company in 1964. In Japan she encountered Noh (aka nô) theatre and soon incorporated nô's extreme slowness, minimalism and suspension into her post-Cunningham choreography. Cloud Gate Dance Theatre
Cloud Gate Dance Theater () is a modern dance group based in Taiwan. It was founded by choreographer Lin Hwai-min in 1973, and later he shared its management with his late protégé, choreographer Lo Man-fei. The troupe was inactive from October 1988 to September 1990. During this time, Lin spent time abroad in India and Indonesia, and studied at New York University. Michael Clark (dancer)
Michael Duncan Clark CBE (born 29 May 1962) is a Scottish dancer and choreographer. Early life Clark was born in Aberdeen and began traditional Scottish dancing at the age of four. In 1975 he left home to study at the Royal Ballet School in London, and on his final day at the school he was presented with the Ursula Moreton Choreographic Award. In 1979 Clark joined Ballet Rambert, working primarily with Richard Alston, who created roles for him in ''Bell High'' (1979), ''Landscape'' (1980), ''Rainbow Ripples'' (1981) and, subsequently, two solos: ''Soda Lake'' (1981) and ''Dutiful Ducks'' (1982).
