Tanjung Aru Railway Station
Tanjung Aru railway station ( ms, Stesen Keretapi Tanjung Aru) is one of four main railway station on the Western Sabah Railway Line located in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. History As part of the development of rail networks in North Borneo, construction of rail networks have started since 1896 with the networks from Tanjung Aru passing through the major towns of Kinarut, Papar and Beaufort. Full operation service of the North Borneo Railway was launched on 1 August 1914. In 2007, the station was closed for renovation works with the station building which is originally built from wood are demolished and replaced with a new concrete building. This previous station located at and began its operation on 21 February 2011. In 2016, new diesel multiple unit (DMUs) from Japan for use in the Tanjung Aru–Beaufort lines was introduced. Kinarut
Kinarut is a town in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. It is located about 20 kilometres south of the state capital, Kota Kinabalu, and Kinarut railway station is one of the stops on the Sabah State Railway. Kinarut is under the administration of the Papar District. Etymology Several theories exist as to the etymological origins of the name 'Kinarut'. One such theory is that it refers to a street in the town which was formerly called China Road. Another theory is that it originated from the Dusun word ''Kinorut'' which means 'cutting using a knife'. History Kinarut originally belonged to the Sultanate of Brunei. In the late 17th century, when Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin had to withdraw from Chermin Island (Pulau Chermin) during the Brunei Civil War, he built a base in Kinarut at a strategic location protected by two rivers. Beaufort railway station ( ms, Stesen Keretapi Beaufort) is one of four main railway stations on the Western Sabah Railway Line located in Beaufort, Sabah, Malaysia. History Railway construction in Beaufort started in 1896; the first construction of a minor station started at the Bakau River on the north east. Another minor station was built on the bank of the Padas River in south Beaufort on 1898. The main station in the town centre (which is the present station) was completed in 1903. Beaufort, Malaysia
Beaufort ( ms, Beaufort) is the capital of the Beaufort District in the Interior Division of Sabah, Malaysia. It was named after former British Governor Leicester Paul Beaufort. Its population was estimated to be around 12,742 in 2010. It is about 90 kilometres south of Kota Kinabalu and about 167 kilometres north of Long Pasia (one of the famous tourist attractions in Interior Division). It has shophouses built high above the roads to avoid the periodic floods of the Padas River. The population of Beaufort is composed mainly of Bisaya, Brunei Malays, Kadazan-Dusuns, Lun Bawang/Lun Dayeh, Muruts and Chinese (mainly Hakkas). Papar ( ms, Pekan Papar) is the capital of the Papar District in the West Coast Division of Sabah, Malaysia. North Borneo
North Borneo (usually known as British North Borneo, also known as the State of North Borneo) was a British Protectorate, British protectorate in the northern part of the island of Borneo, which is present day Sabah. The territory of North Borneo was originally established by concession (territory), concessions of the Sultanates of Bruneian Empire, Brunei and Sultanate of Sulu, Sulu in 1877 and 1878 to a German Empire, German-born representative of Austria-Hungary, a businessman and diplomat, Gustav Overbeck. Overbeck had recently purchased a small tract of land in the western coast of Borneo in 1876 from American merchant Joseph William Torrey, who had promoted the territory in British Hong Kong, Hong Kong since 1866. Overbeck then transferred all his rights to Alfred Dent before withdrawing in 1879. Tanjung Aru is a sub-district of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, of Malaysia. Its main feature is its beach called Tanjung Aru Beach which stretches to over 2 kilometres long along with new skyscrapers.
