Tango (1981 Film)
''Tango'' is a 1981 Polish animated short film written and directed by Zbigniew Rybczyński. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 55th Academy Awards. Summary The film depicts an initially empty room. A ball bounces in through the window, and a boy enters to retrieve it and leaves. This series of actions repeats over and over, gradually accompanied by more and more repeating paths of different people through the room. The film ends with the people eventually leaving the room and the boy throws the ball through the window one last time, landing near an old woman lying down. She then gets up, picks up the ball and leaves through the door near her. Zbigniew Rybczyński
Zbigniew Rybczyński (; born 27 January 1949) is a Polish filmmaker, director, cinematographer, screenwriter, creator of experimental animated films, and multimedia artist who has won numerous prestigious industry awards both in the United States and internationally including the 1982 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for ''Tango''. He has taught cinematography and digital cinematography, and has worked as a researcher of blue and greenscreen compositing technology at Ultimatte Corporation. He is renowned for his innovative audiovisual techniques and for his pioneering experimentation in the field of new image technology. In March 2009, Rybczyński returned to Poland, taking up residence in Wrocław, where he has set up the Center for Audiovisual Technologies (CeTA) at the site of the city's historic Feature Film Studio. Film Polski (also Przedsiębiorstwo Państwowe Film Polski) was the state-run film production and distribution organization of Poland, founded in 1945. History On November 13, 1945, the postwar communist government decreed the formation of Polski Film as a national enterprise. The Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film is an award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as part of the annual Academy Awards, or Oscars, since the 5th Academy Awards (with different names), covering the year 1931–32, to the present. From 1932 until 1970, the category was known as Short Subjects, Cartoons; and from 1971 to 1973 as Short Subjects, Animated Films. The present title began with the 46th Awards in 1974. The term independent animation refers to animated shorts and feature films produced outside a major national animation industry.
