Tanger Outlets Southaven (Memphis)
Tanger Outlets Southaven is an outlet mall in Southaven, Mississippi, just outside Memphis, Tennessee. The mall, located at the intersection of I-55/I-69 and Church Road, began construction in January 2015 and opened in November 2015. Tanger Outlets Southaven is the first outlet mall in the Memphis metro area. History The original plan for the site, proposed in 2004, called for a retail destination to be named DeSoto Pointe, which would have been similar to Southaven Towne Center, a lifestyle center opened just north of the planned site in 2005. However, the plan fell through because of the economy. In the late 2000s, the plan was revisited. In 2011, it was announced that Poag and McEwen, now Poag Shopping Centers, would be developing the project. This revised plan called for the outlet mall, which was not a part of the DeSoto Pointe plan, plus outparcels of hotels and restaurants. Southaven is a city in DeSoto County, Mississippi, United States. It is a principal city in Greater Memphis. The 2020 census reported a population of 54,648, making Southaven the third-largest city in Mississippi and the second most populous suburb of Memphis. Interstate 55 (I-55) is a major north–south Interstate Highway that serves the middle of the United States. It runs from I-10 in Laplace, Louisiana—about west of New Orleans—to U.S. Highway 41 (US 41) in Chicago, Illinois. The proposed Interstate 69 (I-69) extension from Indianapolis southwest to Texas currently has a short piece completed in the US state of Mississippi, south of Memphis, Tennessee. The south end is an at-grade intersection with the former route of Mississippi Highway 304 (MS 304) near Tunica Resorts, where MS 713 continues west to U.S. Highway 61 (US 61), and the route continues north to the Mississippi state line. Much of the route overlaps MS 304, which intersects US 61 farther north than MS 713. MS 304 continues east from I-55, connecting to State Route 385 (SR 385) in Tennessee, forming part of the I-269 Memphis outer beltway. Charles Gregory Davis, known as Greg Davis (born February 22, 1966) is the former mayor of Southaven in northern Mississippi, the state's fourth largest city, from 1997 to 2013. Prior to serving as mayor, he represented the 7th district in the Mississippi House of Representatives. He was the Republican Party's nominee for Mississippi's 1st congressional district in the 2008 special and general elections. In 2012, he was convicted on charges of embezzlement, false pretense, and making fraudulent statements and was later sentenced, however his conviction was overturned in a 2017 retrial and found not guilty. Greg attended Mitchell Hamline School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor degree in December 2021.
