Tandwa Block
Tandwa is a community development block that forms an administrative division in the Simaria subdivision of the Chatra district, Jharkhand state, India. Overview Chatra district forms a part of the Upper Hazaribagh Plateau, Lower Hazaribagh Plateau and northern scarp. Located at an elevation of about , the general slope of the district is from north to south. Red laterite acidic soil predominates in an area that is primarily dependent upon rain-fed agriculture. Around 60% of the district is covered with forests. The district has a population density of 275 persons per km2. Around two-thirds of the families in the district live below poverty line. In the extreme south of the district some portions of Tandwa CD Block are part of North Karanpura Coalfield. Simaria Subdivision
Simaria subdivision is an administrative subdivision of the Chatra district in the North Chotanagpur division in the state of Jharkhand, India. History The subdivision was created in March 2014. Administrative set up Chatra district has two subdivisions – (1) Chatra subdivision with Chatra, Shalighram Ramnarayanpur (Hunterganj), Itkhori, Pratappur, Kunda, Kanhachatti and Mayurhand CD blocks, and (2) Simaria subdivision with Simaria, Tandwa, Lawalong, Gidhour and Pathalgada CD blocks. The subdivisions of Chatra district have the following distinctions: Demographics According to the 2011 Census of India data, Simaria subdivision, in Chatra district, had a total population of 357,192. Lawalong Wildlife Sanctuary
Lawalong Wildlife Sactuary is located in the Lawalong CD block in the Chatra subdivision of the Chatra district in the state of Jharkhand, India. History Lawalong Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier under the control of the Raja of Ramgarh and other landlords in the area. The government took charge in 1924 and in 1947 it became a private protected forest. The ownership vested with the Government of Bihar in 1953. In earlier days, the presence of wildlife in high numbers in these forests attracted hunters from all over the country. One of the owners of this area, the Tikait of Kunda Estate used to organise “shikar” from time to time, in a big way. Subsequently, hunting was completely banned under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Hunterganj (''Shaligram Ramnarayapur''), is a historic town in the Chatra subdivision of the Chatra district, Jharkhand, India. Etymology The town is now named after Shaligram Singh and Ram Narayan Singh, two eminent freedom fighters of Chatra district (then Hazaribagh district). Kauleshwari Temple
Kauleshwari Temple is a pilgrimage centre where Kauleshwari Devi, a form of Sati/Kali, is worshipped. It is in the Chatra subdivision of Chatra district in Jharkhand, India. Chatra is the headquarters of Chatra district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. History Chatra was the “headquarters” of Ramgarh district in the 18th-19th century. The renowned reformer, Raja Rammohan Roy, was ''sheristadar'' in Ramgarh district, in 1804–05, and used to function from both Ramgarh and Chatra. Subsequently, Ramgarh district became part of North-western Frontier Agency and Hazaribagh district came up. Chatra became a subdivision of Hazaribagh district in 1914.
