Tandi Dorji
Tandi Dorji ( dz, རྟ་མགྲིན་རྡོ་རྗེ་, Wylie : Rta mgrin rdo rje; born 2 September 1968) is a Bhutanese politician who has been Foreign Minister for Bhutan since November 2018. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Bhutan, since October 2018. Education He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Mymensingh Medical College under the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his Master of International Public Health from University of Sydney, Australia and Master of Business Administration from University of Canberra, Australia. Political career Before entering politics, he was a pediatrician, public health researcher and a technical advisor. Dorji is a founding member and former president of the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa. 2018 Bhutanese National Assembly Election
National Assembly elections were held in Bhutan in 2018; the first round was held on 15 September and the second round on 18 October. The ruling People's Democratic Party of former Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay came third in the first round of voting, unexpectedly failing to advance to the second round and resulting in it losing all 32 seats. The second round was a contest between the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa, the only other party with parliamentary representation, and the unrepresented Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa, which received the most votes in the first round. Electoral system The 47 members of the National Assembly are elected from single-member constituencies. Primary elections are held in which voters cast votes for parties. The Druk ( bo, འབྲུག, dz, ་) is the "Thunder Dragon" of Tibetan and Bhutanese mythology and a Bhutanese national symbol. A druk appears on the flag of Bhutan, holding jewels to represent wealth. In Dzongkha, Bhutan is called ''Druk Yul'' "Land of Druk", and Bhutanese leaders are called Druk Gyalpo, "Thunder Dragon Kings".
