Tamāio was a Maori people, Maori ''rangatira'' (chieftain) of the Tainui tribal confederation, based at Kāwhia in Waikato, New Zealand. He was the first chieftain to lead a war-party inland from Kāwhia, in a war against Ngāti Hā, sometime around the middle of the sixteenth century. Life Tamāio's father was Uenuku-te-rangi-hōkā, son of Whatihua (through whom he was a male-line descendant of Hoturoa, the captain of the ''Tainui (canoe), Tainui'') and Rua-pū-tahanga of Ngāti Ruanui (through whom he was a descendant of Turi (Maori ancestor), Turi, the captain of the ''Aotea (canoe), Aotea'' canoe). Rereahu
Rereahu was a Maori ''rangatira'' (chieftain) of Ngāti Raukawa in the Tainui tribal confederation from the Waikato region, New Zealand. He probably lived in the first half of the seventeenth century. He is the ancestor of the Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Hauā, and Ngāti Korokī Kahukura iwi, and of Rereahu, a group based around Maniaiti / Benneydale, Pureora, and Maraeroa in Waitomo District, whose status as a separate iwi or as a hapu (‘sub-tribe’) of Ngāti Maniapoto is a matter of dispute. Whatihua
Whatihua was a Māori rangatira (chief) in the Tainui confederation of tribes, based at Kāwhia, New Zealand. He quarrelled with his brother, Tūrongo, and as a result Tainui was split between them, with Whatihua receiving the northern Waikato region, including Kāwhia. He probably lived in the early sixteenth century. Life Whatihua was a male-line descendant of Hoturoa, leader of the ''Tainui'' ''waka'' through his father Tāwhao. Tāwhao married two daughters of Te Aorere, another descendant of Hoturoa, Pūnui-a-te-kore and Maru-tē-hiakina. Rua-pū-tahanga was a Māori ''puhi ariki'' (chieftainess) from Ngāti Ruanui, who married Whatihua and thus became the ancestor of many tribes of Tainui. She probably lived in the sixteenth century. Hotunui was a Maori ''rangatira'' (chieftain) of the Tainui tribal confederation of Waikato, New Zealand. Tia (Māori Explorer)
In Māori traditions, Tia was an early Māori explorer of Aotearoa New Zealand and a rangatira (chief) in the Arawa tribal confederation. He is responsible for the names of various features and settlements around the central North Island, most notably Lake Taupō. He might have lived around 1400. Life Tia was born in Hawaiki to Tuamatua and Tauna. He travelled with Ngātoro-i-rangi and Tama-te-kapua on the '' Arawa'' canoe, which made landfall in New Zealand at Maketu in the Bay of Plenty. ''Arawa'' was one of the great ocean-going, voyaging canoes in Māori traditions that was used in the migrations that settled New Zealand. Taupō (), sometimes written Taupo, is a town on the north-eastern shore of Lake Taupō, New Zealand's largest lake, in the central North Island. Ngāti Tūwharetoa
Ngāti Tūwharetoa is an iwi descended from Ngātoro-i-rangi, the priest who navigated the Arawa canoe to New Zealand. The Tūwharetoa region extends from Te Awa o te Atua (Tarawera River) at Matatā across the central plateau of the North Island to the lands around Mount Tongariro and Lake Taupō. Tūwharetoa is the sixth largest iwi in New Zealand, with a population of 35,877 of the 2013 New Zealand census, and 40% of its people under the age of 15. Waimiha
Waimiha is a rural community in the Ruapehu District and Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located south of Te Kuiti and Benneydale, and north of Taumarunui and Ongarue.
