Tamworth, Ontario
Tamworth is a small community in Stone Mills township in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada. Tamworth is located due north of Napanee, and northeast of Belleville, near Beaver Lake. Beaver Lake flows into the Salmon River which runs through Tamworth and this flowing water was the source of much of the commerce of Tamworth's former mills. History Originally settled in 1826, Calvin Wheeler built several mills here in the 1840s and it was originally known as Wheeler's Mills. In 1848, a post office opened under the current name, named after Tamworth, Staffordshire. Wheeler was an admirer of Sir Robert Peel, member of Parliament for Tamworth. The area was settled by many Irish immigrants and by 1865 the population of the area was 500. In 1884 the Tamworth and Quebec Railway had three trains departing to Napanee each day. Stone Mills is a lower-tier township north of Greater Napanee in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada. According to the 2021 census, the township has a population of 7,826. Napanee River
The Napanee River is a river in Lennox and Addington County and Frontenac County in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is in the Great Lakes Basin and flows from its source at Camden Lake to its mouth at the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario at Napanee. It flows through a valley of preglacial origin. The valley of the Napanee is lined with settlements such as Greater Napanee, Newburgh, Camden East, Yarker, and Petworth. This river was originally called the Appanea. A grist mill was constructed on the river in 1785 near the current site of the town of Greater Napanee. Other mills were added at Yarker and Camden East. Franklin La Du Ferguson
Franklin La Du Ferguson (June 21, 1861May 27, 1944) was a minister in the Congregational church and the second president of Pomona College in Claremont, California. He served from 1897 to 1901, the briefest tenure of any Pomona president to date. Early life Franklin La Du Ferguson was born at Tamworth, Ontario, Canada, in 1861 to John and Matilda Pomeroy Ferguson. His father was of Scotch-Irish descent, and his mother was descended from ''Mayflower'' Pilgrims. He studied for the ministry at Albert College and then at Yale University, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1888. He served as a pastor in Milford, Connecticut, and directed the Chadron Academy in Chadron, Nebraska. The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) is a Canadian developmental junior ice hockey league. The league has primarily had teams in the Greater Toronto Area, Central Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, and Quebec. The Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League is a senior ice hockey league with 16 franchises based in Eastern Ontario. History The EOSHL became a sanctioned Senior "A" league in 2003. In 2005, the league was promoted to Senior "AAA" to compete against the Major League Hockey (MLH) league and have a chance to win the Allan Cup. In 2006, the league dropped from six to four teams. During the 2007-08 season, a new team known as the Cooks Bay Canucks joined the league. What ensued with this franchise his quite original, as the team, although successful on the ice, underwent two name changes in the same season. The team started the season as the Cooks Bay Canucks, but soon dropped it for the Simcoe County Canucks. Lennox and Addington County is a county and census division of the Canadian province of Ontario. The county seat is Greater Napanee.
