Tampa Roller Derby
Tampa Roller Derby (TRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in the Tampa Bay Area. Founded in 2005, Tampa Roller Derby is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and league organization Tampa Roller Derby was founded in 2005 as the Tampa Bay Derby Darlins by Angela "Dee Bauchery" Kroslak, and by later in the year a relationship began with the United Skates of America. The league was divided into 4 teams in 2006, the Black Widows, Cigar City Mafia, Switchblade Sisters, and Vicegrip Vixens. In May 2006 and all four teams participated in the first two bouts in TRD history, an event nicknamed "Project Mayhem". The first season culminated with the Black Widows winning the DD Championship Cup, by way of a completely undefeated season. In 2007 Tampa Roller Derby became the first Florida league to be accepted into the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Tampa Bay Area
The Tampa Bay area is a major populated area surrounding Tampa Bay on the west coast of Florida in the United States. It includes the main cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater. It is the 18th largest metropolitan area in the United States, with a population of 3,175,275 as of the 2020 U.S. Census. The exact boundaries of the metro area can differ in different contexts. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. The "Dust Devil" tournament was contested in front of several thousand fans in Tucson, Arizona. Red Bull Flugtag (, 'airshow' ) is an event organized by Red Bull in which competitors attempt to fly home-made, human-powered flying machines, size-limited to around and weight-limited to approximately . The flying machines are usually launched off a pier about high into the sea or body of water. Most competitors enter for the entertainment value, and the flying machines rarely fly at all. Background The format was originally invented in Selsey, a small seaside town in the south of England under the name "Birdman Rally" in 1971. The first Red Bull Flugtag competition was held in 1992 in Vienna, Austria. It was such a success that it has been held every year since and in over 35 cities all over the world.
