Tam Shepherds Trick Shop is a magic equipment shop in Glasgow, Scotland. It was established in 1886 and is the oldest joke and magic shop in the world. Location The shop is located at 33 Queen Street, Glasgow near the site of the former Archaos nightclub. History The shop was opened in 1886 by Tam Shepherd before being operated by the Walton family. Queen Street, Glasgow
Queen Street is one of the major thoroughfares in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. The street runs north from Argyle Street (parallel to nearby Buchanan Street) until it reaches George Square at the junction with St. Vincent Street. Several local landmarks are located on this street including Royal Exchange Square, with the Gallery of Modern Art at the junction with Ingram Street. George Square is at the northern end of the street, as is Queen Street Station, the second busiest railway station in Glasgow. With several major streets in the city centre pedestrianised, Queen Street and Ingram Street form part of a major taxi and bus corridor for services travelling to the eastern and southern parts of the city. Archaos (nightclub)
Archaos was a Glasgow nightclub that closed in 2007. Location Archoas was located in the Grade A listed building on 21-41 Queen Street, Glasgow and covered 3,240 square metres. The three-level club centred around a dance-floor with balconies around it. Within the club was the Skye bar, which was described by The Caterer as "as club within a club". Ownership The club was owned by Stefan King. History The club opened around 1995. It was noted for its parties, student focussed nights, and events catering to customers aged under eighteen years old. Unlike other clubs where disc-jockeys carefully mixed records, Archaos' disc-jockeys had a reputation for simply playing one track after another. Glasgow International
Glasgow International (GI) is a biennial visual arts festival that takes place in Glasgow, Scotland. While Glasgow has a thriving contemporary art scene of its own, GI offers a platform to artists from other countries as well, showcasing the best of both local and international contemporary art. The festival started in 2005. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and especially its impact on the arts, the 2020 edition of the GI was postponed. The ninth edition of GI, opening in 2021, presented a hybrid of in person and online exhibitions and events, including 38 exhibitions in 27 venues across Glasgow. Jerry Sadowitz
Jerry Sadowitz (born June 1961) is an American-born Scottish stand-up comedian and magician. Notorious for his frequently controversial brand of black comedy, Sadowitz has said that audiences going to see a comedian should suspend their beliefs. He has influenced a generation of comedians, but states that "politically incorrect comedy is no genre: it's me, and it's been ripped off by loads and loads of comics". In 2007, he was voted the 15th-greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4's ''100 Greatest Stand-Ups''. In the 2010 list, he was voted the 33rd-greatest stand-up comic. Sadowitz is also widely acclaimed as one of the best close-up magicians in the world and an accomplished practitioner of sleight of hand, having written several books on magic and invented several conjuring innovations. Roy Walton
Roy Walton (11 April 1932 – 4 February 2020) was an English card magic expert. Biography First interested in magic at the age of eight, Walton was a world-recognised card magician creating hundreds of card effects, including his most famous effect, Card warp. He mentored numerous Scottish magicians including Jerry Sadowitz, R. Paul Wilson and Peter Duffie. Many of Walton's pamphlets and other works have been collected in three books on card magic currently published by Lewis Davenport Ltd. of London, and he contributed to several English language magazines on card magic (e.g. Magic magazine and Genii magazine).
