Tally Ho Township is in Granville County, North Carolina. It is near Stem, North Carolina. There is a Tall Ho Road and a Tally Ho Missionary Baptist Church and cemetery. The area was used by fox hunters and named for their rallying cry. William Webb settled in the area in 1776. Forlorn Hope Lodge was located in Tally Ho. Granville County is a county located on the northern border of the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 60,992. Its county seat is Oxford. Granville County encompasses Oxford, NC Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC Combined Statistical Area. The county has access to Kerr Lake and Falls Lake and is part of the Roanoke, Tar and Neuse River watersheds. History The county was formed by English colonists in 1746 from Edgecombe County. Stem is a town in Granville County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 960 at the 2020 Census. History The town of Stem was established as a separate and distinct entity from Tally Ho township in 1888 by William Thomas Stem. The Stem family were co-proprietors of a general store in the Tally Ho township and owners of the land where a new spur of the Richmond and Danville Railroad terminated. Stem was built around this new rail station. The town was incorporated in 1911. Stem is home to the historic Cozart-Coley House. William Woods Holden
William Woods Holden (November 24, 1818 – March 1, 1892) was an American politician who served as the List of Governors of North Carolina, 38th and 40th governor of North Carolina. He was appointed by President of the United States, President Andrew Johnson in 1865 for a brief term and then elected in 1868. He served until 1871 and was the leader of the state's History of the United States Republican Party, Republican Party during the Reconstruction Era. Holden was the second governor in American history to be Impeachment in the United States, impeached, and the first to be removed from office through that process. His impeachment was politically motivated due to his suppression of the Ku Klux Klan. After Republicans lost the 1870 election, Democrats impeached him on eight charges for supposed actions during the Kirk–Holden war. He is the only North Carolina governor to have been impeached. James Edwin Webb (October 7, 1906 – March 27, 1992) was an American government official who served as Undersecretary of State from 1949 to 1952. He was the second Administrator of NASA from February 14, 1961, to October 7, 1968.
