Tallis Obed Moses
Tallis Obed Moses (born 24 October 1954) is a Vanuatuan politician and pastor who served as the president of Vanuatu from 6 July 2017 to 6 July 2022. Biography Moses was originally from Port Vato, West Ambrym. He attended Primary School from 1964 to 1967. He later worked for the Teaching Service as a teacher in various schools, before attending the Tangoa Presbyterian Bible Institute in South Santo in 1978. He studied at the Sydney Missionary and Bible College in Australia from 1980 to 1981 and graduated with Diploma in Divinity and Mission. He later studied at Talua Ministry Training Centre between 1985 and 1986, graduating with a Diploma in Theology. He went back to Australia in 1989 and studied at the Alan Walker College of Evangelism, where he graduated in 1989 with Certificate of Merit. President Of Vanuatu
The president of Vanuatu (french: Président du Vanuatu) is the head of state of Vanuatu. The president is elected for a five-year term by an electoral college consisting of Parliament and the presidents of the regional councils. The president's role is mostly ceremonial. The Constitution grants the president the ability to appoint the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Vanuatu, and three other justices. In case of vacancy, the speaker of the Parliament will be the acting president of Vanuatu. From 1906 to 1980 the resident commissioners of the New Hebrides were British and French colonial officials. From 1887 to 1906 the New Hebrides was led by Anglo-French joint naval commissioners. The current president is Nikenike Vurobaravu, since 23 July 2022. Vanuatuan Presbyterian Pastors
Ni-Vanuatu (informally abbreviated Ni-Van) is a large group of closely related Melanesian ethnic groups native to the island country of Vanuatu. As such, ''Ni-Vanuatu'' are a mixed ethnolinguistic group with a shared ethnogenesis that speak a multitude of languages. ''Ni-Vanuatu'' or ''Ni-Van'' is usually restricted to the indigenous population of Vanuatu. Seoule Simeon (also spelled Seule Simeon; born 10 October 1970) is a Vanuatuan politician. A member of Vanuatu's francophone minority, Simeon went to Lycée Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, but did not seek higher education. In the 2016 general election, Simeon was elected Member of Parliament for Épi Island district as a member of the Union of Moderate Parties (the historically conservative party of francophones). On November 26 during a cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Charlot Salwai named Simeon Minister of Youth and Sports. He remained in this role until September 6, 2019, when he was elected Speaker of the Parliament. Baldwin Jacobson Lonsdale (5 August 1948 – 17 June 2017) was a Vanuatuan politician and Anglican priest who served as the president of Vanuatu from 22 September 2014 until his death in 2017. Early life and career Lonsdale was born on Mota Lava, in the Banks Islands, in 1948. Before becoming president, Lonsdale was a civil servant who served as the secretary general of the province of Torba on the island of Mota Lava. He later became an Anglican priest. Lonsdale was occasionally referred to as ''Womtelo Reverend Baldwin Lonsdale''. The Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu (french: Église presbytérienne de Vanuatu), or the Presbitirin Jyos Blong Vanuatu in Bislama, is the largest Christian denomination in Vanuatu. History It was created by missionaries of the London Missionary Society in the mid-1800s. In 1838 Rev John William arrived on the Island of Futuna. In Eromango Rev. William was martyred and eaten. In 1841 Apela and Samuele were placed to Futuna. Both of them were martyred. They prepared the way for Presbyterians from Canada, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand. The moderator of the General Assembly is the chairperson of a General Assembly, the highest court of a Presbyterian or Reformed church. Kirk sessions and presbyteries may also style the chairperson as moderator. The Oxford Dictionary states that a Moderator may be a "Presbyterian minister presiding over an ecclesiastical body". Luganville
Luganville is the second largest city in Vanuatu after the capital Port Vila; it is located on the island of Espiritu Santo and has a population of 18,062 as of the 2020 census. Those on Vanuatu's northern islands who regard Luganville as their big city, particularly indigenous populations, call it Santo; rural residents of Espiritu Santo call it Kanal (from French "second canal"). Luganville served as a major base of operations for American troops during World War II. Boulevard Higinson, the main street that runs through Luganville, contains mainly tourist boutiques and general stores.
