''Tales from the Aniverse'' is a science fiction comic book created by Randy Zimmerman and Susan Van Camp, first published in 1985 by Arrow Comics, featuring anthropomorphic animals as the main characters. Arrow Comics was one of the original independent publishers of black-and-white comics in the mid-1980s, started in Ypsilanti, Michigan, by founders Ralph Griffith (24 April 1960–11 December 2020) and Stuart Kerr. History Origins Griffith and Kerr were just getting ready to publish a local comic fanzine called ''Fantastic Fanzine'' (a name which they later discovered had already been used in the seventies by Fantagraphics founder Gary Groth), when the first issue of ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' came out. Susan Van Camp
Susan Van Camp is a fantasy artist, best known for her work on various role playing games. Biography Van Camp was born on June 11, 1959, and raised in Flint, Michigan. She began her commercial career in gaming by doing work for Steve Jackson's ''Car Wars'' series. From there she proceeded to comic books with Arrow Comics' ''Tales from the Aniverse'' in 1984, and ''Varcel’s Vixens'' from Caliber Comics. Comics led to science fiction conventions and the art shows held at the conventions, where she began painting and putting her paintings up for bidding by the public. Comic Book
A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialogue contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. "Comic Cuts" was a British comic published from 1890 to 1953. It was preceded by "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday" (1884) which is notable for its use of sequential cartoons to unfold narrative. These British comics existed alongside of the popular lurid "Penny dreadfuls" (such as "Spring-heeled Jack"), boys' " Story papers" and the humorous Punch (magazine) which was the first to use the term "cartoon" in its modern sense of a humorous drawing. Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human traits, emotions, or intentions to non-human entities. It is considered to be an innate tendency of human psychology. Personification is the related attribution of human form and characteristics to abstract concepts such as nations, emotions, and natural forces, such as seasons and weather. Both have ancient roots as storytelling and artistic devices, and most cultures have traditional fables with anthropomorphized animals as characters. People have also routinely attributed human emotions and behavioral traits to wild as well as domesticated animals. Science Fiction Comics
Publication of comic strips and comic books focusing on science fiction became increasingly common during the early 1930s in newspapers published in the United States. They have since spread to many countries around the world. History The first science fiction comic was the gag cartoon ''Mr. Skygack, from Mars'' by A.D. Condo, which debuted in newspapers in 1907. The first non-humorous science fiction comic strip, ''Buck Rogers'', appeared in 1929, and was based on a story published that year in Amazing Stories. It was quickly followed by others in the genre, such as ''Flash Gordon'', ''Brick Bradford'', and the British strip ''Dan Dare''.
