Goa Legislative Assembly
The Goa Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the state of Goa in India. The Assembly meets at the Goa State Legislative Assembly Complex in Porvorim, Bardez. The Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly consists of 40 members. The assembly is in charge of the budget, the Assembly appropriates money for social programs, agricultural development, infrastructure development, etc. It is also responsible for proposing and levying taxes. History Following the end of Portuguese rule in 1961, Goa was placed under military administration headed by Lieutenant General Kunhiraman Palat Candeth as Lieutenant-Governor. On 8 June 1962, military rule was replaced by civilian government when the Lieutenant-Governor nominated an informal Consultative Council of 29 nominated members to assist him in the administration of the territory. Atanasio Monserrate, also known as Babush, is an Indian politician from the state of Goa. Babush is a three term member of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly from Panaji. He was the Member of Legislative Assembly for Taleigao. He is married to Jennifer Monserrate, Member of Legislative Assembly, Taleigao. He was one of the ten members of Indian National Congress who joined Bharatiya Janata Party in July 2019. Political career Babush contested his first election in 2002 on a United Goans Democratic Party ticket from the Taleigao Vidhan Sabha constituency. The Goa legislative assembly election was held on 3 March 2012, to select the 40 members of the Sixth Goa Legislative Assembly, as the term of Sixth Legislative Assembly ended on March 2012. Jennifer Monserrate (born 24 March 1970) is an Indian politician who is a three-term member from the Taleigao Assembly constituency of the Goa Legislative Assembly. She is the incumbent Cabinet Minister for Revenue, IT, Labour and Employment under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. She assumed office of Minister of Revenue and IT in July 2019. She succeeded Rohan Khaunte who was earlier the Minister of Revenue & IT.
