Talas American College
Talas American College (Talas Amerikan Koleji or Talas Amerikan Ortaokulu in Turkish) was a secondary school for boys, located in Talas, Kayseri in Turkey. History The college was established in 1871 by US missionary James L. Fowle, and was turned to a secondary boarding school by Henry K. Wingate in 1889. With the completion of a much larger building in 1906, the college consisted of two schools, one for boys and the other for girls in two separate buildings. After serving the region in education 86 years long and graduating notable alumni, the college was closed down in 1968. The boys' school building is being used by the provincial youth and sports authority since 1976. The building of girls' school, which was used as a hospital in 1911, was left to Erciyes University in 1978. Talas (Turkey)
Talas, formerly known as Dalassa (Greek language, Greek: Δάλασσα) is a town and now largely suburban enclave in central Anatolia in the district of Kayseri Province in Turkey. The population of Talas city was 165,127 in 2020, up from 30,485 in 1990. It is located about 7 km from the city of Kayseri and has evolved from an independent town to a satellite city of Kayseri. Talas is connected to neighboring Kayseri by road and by the Kayseray mass transit system. The city has experienced rapid urbanization and population growth in the last 30 years. Erciyes University ( tr, Erciyes Üniversitesi) is a Turkish institute of higher education located in Kayseri, Turkey. As of 4 April 2019, a total of 64,194 students were studying for their bachelor's degree and postgraduate studies. Background Erciyes University began as the Gevher Nesibe Medical Faculty, which was opened as an affiliation with Hacettepe University in 1969, and Kayseri Business Administration Faculty, which opened in 1977, constituted an independent university under the name of The University of Kayseri in 1978. Mete Akyol (1935, Ordu - 2 November 2016, Istanbul) was a Turkish journalist. Akyol studied in Talas American Junior High school and Tarsus American High school. He graduated from the English Literature section of Ankara University in 1960. Beginning by 1959, Akyol served in the ''Milliyet'', '' Öncü'', '' Hürriyet'', '' Dünya'', ''Günaydın'' and '' Sabah'' newspapers as a reporter, columnist and editor.
