Takashi Hirayasu
(born 5 January 1952 in Nakagusuku, Okinawa) is an Okinawan musician. He has released two albums and is known in the United States particularly for his collaborations with Bob Brozman. He was also a member of Champloose. Nakagusuku, Okinawa
is a village located in Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. As of 2016, the village has an estimated population of 20,030 and a density of 1,300 persons per km². The total area is 15.46 km². The ruins of a gusuku ( Ryukyuan castle), Nakagusuku Castle, are also in this village. It is famous for its ancient Chinese dance, ''Tafaku'', which has been handed down for generations. The village is well known among Okinawans as an agricultural farming village, with its staple crop being sugar cane (Okinawan: wuuji. Japanese: satokibi). It is also known for its white or yellow colored carrots. Ryukyu University is partially located within Nakagusuku, and partially in the neighboring town of Nishihara. Nakagusuku features one of the largest percentages of people of Okinawan descent who immigrated overseas out of all the districts in Okinawa. Bob Brozman
Bob Brozman (March 8, 1954 – April 23, 2013) was an American guitarist and ethnomusicologist. Biography Brozman was born to a Jewish family in Long Island, New York, and began playing the guitar when he was six. He performed gypsy jazz, calypso, blues, ragtime, Hawaiian music, and Caribbean music and collaborated with musicians from India, Africa, Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Réunion. He has been called "an instrumental wizard" and "a walking archive of 20th Century American music". Brozman toured often in North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa. He recorded numerous albums and won the ''Guitar Player'' Readers' Poll three times for Best Blues, Best World, and Best Slide Guitarist. In 1999, Brozman and Woody Mann founded International Guitar Seminars, which hosted over 100 students annually at sites in California, New York, Washington and Canada. Champloose
, is a Japanese rock musician and politician. He, along with his band Champloose, played a large role in the Okinawan home-grown "folk rock" scene in the 1970s and 1980s. His first big hit was " Haisai Ojisan" ("Hey, old man") in 1972, which he wrote when he was in high school. Songs from the 1980 album Blood Lines, like "Hana" and " Subete no Hito no Kokoro ni Hana o", are frequently heard in international markets. He was elected a member of the House of Councillors in July 2004. In 2010 he ran for a second term but lost. Music career with Champloose is a Japanese band from Okinawa blending traditional Okinawan music with a strong Western rock influence.
