Toray Arrows (men's Volleyball Team)
is a men's volleyball team based in Mishima, Shizuoka, Mishima city, Shizuoka, Japan. They play in V.League (Japan), V.League Division 1. The owner of the team is Toray Industries. History The club was founded in 1947 in Ōtsu, Shiga, Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture as Toyo Rayon Kurin Kai. They initially played nine-player volleyball. They moved to Mishima in 1964 and started to play six-player volleyball. They were described as the strongest team in the second-tier league but when they were promoted to the top-flight, they found themselves languishing in the wrong end of the table. However, since they returned to the Japan Volleyball League in the 1988-1989 season, they established themselves as a top-flight team. Toray Arrows won Kurowashiki All Japan Volleyball Championship, All Japan Championship in 2002 and the V.League in the 2004–05, 2008-09 season. The Japan men's national volleyball team ( ja, 男子バレーボール日本代表) represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Japan Volleyball Association. Their nickname is "''RYUJIN NIPPON (龍神 NIPPON)''", meaning "Japanese Dragon God" or "Dragon God of Japan" in Japanese. Japan won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. The years after this have been less successful. Japan missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also missed Rio 2016 after finishing seventh at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. 2010 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship
The 2010 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship was held in Italy from 25 September to 10 October 2010. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. In addition to 2006 champion Brazil and host nation Italy, 22 teams qualified for the tournament by means of continental and regional competitions. The matches took place in ten venues across ten Italian cities, with the final being held at the PalaLottomatica, Rome. The tournament was won by Brazil, who beat Cuba in final. Brazil won their third straight world championship having won previously in 2002 and 2006. The podium was completed by Serbia who defeated Italy in the 3rd place match. Brazilian wing-spiker Murilo Endres was named the tournament MVP. Brazil's victory continued their eight-year period of domination of world volleyball.
