Tait Memorial Trust
The Tait Memorial Trust MTis a charitable foundation, first established in the United Kingdom, with the chief purpose of providing financial support to outstanding young performing artists from Australia and New Zealand who wish to pursue post-graduate studies in leading performing arts institutions or privately with internationally recognised teachers in the United Kingdom. It also offers performance opportunities in their many concerts and events in London and advice and mentoring to awardees. The TMT was founded by Isla Baring OAM in memory of her father, Sir Frank Tait and his brothers, who played an important part in the establishment of theatre and the performing arts in Australia. Sir Frank, the youngest of the Tait brothers, carried the firm J. C. Williamson's into its most successful years dominated by the Sutherland-Williamson opera company in 1965 which brought Dame Joan Sutherland back to her homeland. Frank Tait
Frank Samuel Tait (12 November 1883 – 23 August 1965) was an Australian theatre entrepreneur, managing director of J. C. Williamson's. He was the youngest of five Tait brothers, well known in Australia as show-business entrepreneurs and managers. History Tait was born on 12 November 1883 in Richmond, Victoria, the youngest son of John Turnbull Tait (1830–1902), who in 1862 emigrated from Scotland to Victoria, Australia, where he married Sarah Victoria Leeming (c. 1837 – 9 August 1923). They had children in Castlemaine, and one, Frank Samuel, in Melbourne. Tait attended Richmond State School and Melbourne Church of England Grammar School. He became general manager of J. C. Williamson Theatres in 1914. In February 1921 J. C. Piers Lane
Piers Lane (born 8 January 1958) is an Australian classical pianist. His performance career has taken him to more than 40 countries. His concerto repertoire exceeds 75 works. Early life Lane's English father and Australian mother met while auditioning as piano students for the Royal College of Music. Lane was born in London and he grew up in Brisbane. He graduated with a Medal of Excellence from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where his teacher was Nancy Weir, winning the Margaret Nickson Prize in 1978 and the Ruby C Cooling prize in 1977 and 1978. He was later awarded an honorary doctorate by the conservatorium. He first came to prominence at the inaugural Sydney International Piano Competition in 1977, at which he was named Best Australian Pianist (he was a judge at the 2004 competition). Amy Dickson
Amy Dickson (born 1982) is an Australian classical saxophone player. Early life Dickson was born in Sydney. She began to play piano at the age of two, and saxophone at the age of six. She initially played 'some jazz' in her youth, but eventually focused her saxophone training entirely on the classical repertoire. She made her concerto debut at age 16, playing the ''Concerto pour Saxophone Alto'' by Pierre Max Dubois, with Henryk Pisarek and the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra. Dickson became a recipient of the James Fairfax Australian Young Artist of the Year. Mary-Jean Anaïs O'Doherty is an Australian-American coloratura soprano. She was the first prize winner in the 2013 Paris Opera Awards. Life and career O'Doherty was born in Houston, Texas, to an Australian father and an Armenians, Armenian mother, Eliza Basmadjian, from Greece. Thomas Rann
Thomas Rann (born 10 December in Adelaide) is an Australian cellist. Thomas Rann commenced his cello studies at the age of 9 studying with Ruth Saffir and Niall Brown at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. He relocated to London in 2000 to study under cellist Raphael Wallfisch at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has since been under the mentorship of Israeli pedagogue Uzi Wiesel. Thomas Rann has performed as soloist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Orchestra amongst others and as recitalist and chamber musician at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and Verbier Festival.
