Taisha, Shimane
is a town located in Hikawa District, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 15,733 and a density of 376.39 persons per km2. The total area was 41.80 km2. On March 22, 2005, Taisha, along with the city of Hirata, the towns of Koryō, Sada and Taki (all from Hikawa District), was merged into the expanded city of Izumo. Taisha is famous for being the location of Izumo Taisha shrine, the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan. Izumo Taisha, along with Ise Grand Shrine in Ise, Mie prefecture are considered two of the most important sites in Shinto. Taisha has one active train station, Izumo Taisha-mae Station owned and run by the Ichibata Electric Railway. Shimane Prefecture
is a prefecture of Japan located in the Chūgoku region of Honshu. Shimane Prefecture is the second-least populous prefecture of Japan at 665,205 (February 1, 2021) and has a geographic area of 6,708.26 km2. was a city located in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on January 1, 1955. As of 2003, the city had an estimated population of 28,506 and a density of 200.68 persons per km². The total area was 142.05 km². On March 22, 2005, Hirata, along with the towns of Koryō, Sada, Taisha and Taki (all from Hikawa District), was merged into the expanded city of Izumo. Kazuhiko Aoki (politician)
is a Japanese politician. After an earlier career working for a television broadcasting company, he entered the field of politics, serving as secretary to his politician father Mikio Aoki since 1999. In 2010 he succeeded his father as a member in the House of Councillors for the Shimane at-large district. A member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Aoki was re-elected to the House in July 2016 as the member for the merged Tottori-Shimane at-large district. Izumo Taisha-mae Station
is a passenger railway station located in the city of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by the private transportation company, Ichibata Electric Railway and is the closest train station to the Izumo Taisha Shrine. The station featured as a location setting in the 2008 NHK drama series and ''Railways'', a film set on the Ichibata Electric Railway line. Izumo Taisha
, officially Izumo Ōyashiro, is one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines in Japan. No record gives the date of establishment. Located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, it is home to two major festivals. It is dedicated to the god , famous as the Shinto deity of marriage and to Kotoamatsukami, distinguishing heavenly ''kami''.
