Taipei Adventist Preparatory Academy
The Primacy Collegiate Academy (TPCA; ), formerly Taipei Adventist Preparatory Academy (TAPA), is a private international high school located in Shilin District, Taipei, Taiwan. In 2002, Adventist College Preparatory Center (ACPC) was founded by Robert Christensen with the purpose of providing part-time English-language tutoring for high school students and college-placement assistance for students interested in attending English-speaking universities. During the first year, the school provided tutoring to 30 students and college placement to 6 students. Throughout the following years, the student population increased and, in 2005, the English-language training was eventually integrated into an American curriculum high school offering regular and Advanced Placement courses. Shilin District (also spelled Shihlin District, zh, t=士林區, p=Shìlínqū, poj=Sū-lîm-khu) is a district of Taipei. The central command center of the Republic of China Navy (ROCN) is located in Shilin. History The name ''Shilin'' was derived from ''Pattsiran'', the indigenous Ketagalan word for "hot springs". Adventist College Preparatory Center (ACPC)
Adventism is a branch of Protestant Christianity that believes in the imminent Second Coming (or the "Second Advent") of Jesus Christ. It originated in the 1830s in the United States during the Second Great Awakening when Baptist preacher William Miller first publicly shared his belief that the Second Coming would occur at some point between 1843 and 1844. His followers became known as Millerites. After Miller's prophecies failed, the Millerite movement split up and was continued by a number of groups that held different doctrines from one another. These groups, stemming from a common Millerite ancestor, became known collectively as the Adventist movement. Taipei Adventist American School (TAAS) is a private foreign-registered elementary school with an American-based curriculum located on Yangming Shan (陽明山) in the Shihlin District of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is administered under the Northern Asia-Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. History Taipei Adventist American School had its beginnings in 1955 as a small home-style school for overseas missionaries of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and doctors of Taiwan Adventist Hospital who mostly came from North America to pioneer the SDA mission work in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Taiwan Adventist International School (TAIS; ) is a secondary boarding school operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is situated in the midst of rural Nantou County, Taiwan. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. History Taiwan Adventist International School is a boarding school operated in North Asia-Pacific Division of Seventh-day Adventists to fill the need of its constituents, missionaries' children, and local, Taiwanese who are looking for Adventist education at the junior high and high school level.
