Taina Bien-Aimé

	Taina Bien-Aimé Taina Bien-Aimé is the Executive Director of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women and a founding member of Equality Now. Early life Bien-Aimé grew up in Switzerland and worked at the University of Geneva. She then went to NYU School of Law to become a lawyer, and received the Vanderbilt Medal while there. In addition to a law degree, she also holds a License in Political Science from the University of Geneva/ Graduate Institute of International Studies in Switzerland. Career In 1992, Bien-Aimé took a job at the firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and she stayed there for four years. While there, she met Jessica Neuwirth, who had previously worked at Amnesty International. The two helped start the organization Equality Now. 	Coalition Against Trafficking In Women The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) is an international non-governmental organization opposing human trafficking, prostitution, and other forms of commercial sex. Views CATW is rooted in a feminist point of view. Its definition of "trafficking" includes all forms of prostitution of women or children. CATW opposes a distinction between "forced" and "voluntary" prostitution, as it sees all forms of prostitution as a violation of the dignity of women and violence against them. In this regard, it is strongly opposed to the perspectives of the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women and the sex workers' rights movement. 	The Trafficking Victims Protection Act The Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA) is a federal statute passed into law in 2000 by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Clinton. The law was later reauthorized by presidents Bush, Obama, and Trump. In addition to its applicability to US citizens, it has the ability to authorize protections for undocumented immigrants who are victims of severe forms of trafficking and violence. History The Trafficking Victims Protection Act was subsequently renewed in 2003, 2006, 2008 (when it was renamed the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008).
