Tages (album)
''Tages'' is the debut studio album by the Swedish rock band Tages, released on 3 November 1965 on Platina Records. Released during a period in which the band had accumulated four top ten singles in ''Tio i Topp'' and as many on Kvällstoppen. This led the band to become one of Sweden's first and foremost pop groups, along with Hep Stars. It was their first of three albums recorded on Platina Records, after which they'd switch to Parlophone, becoming among the first Swedish groups to do so. Issued in 6000 copies, it sold 10000 and became their first Gold record in Sweden (the second being ''Tages 2).'' Despite this apparent success, it failed to chart on Kvällstoppen. Content The album features several garage rock and rhythm and blues standards such as "Dimples" and "Got My Mojo Working" (titled "I Got My Mojo Working" on the album) and can be considered a typical album for the era. Tages were a Swedish rock band formed in Gothenburg in 1963. The group, whose original line-up consisted of Tommy Blom, Göran Lagerberg, Danne Larsson, Anders Töpel and Freddie Skantze, were one of the most successful Swedish bands of the 1960s. They achieved thirteen top-20 singles on Kvällstoppen, such as " Sleep Little Girl", " I Should Be Glad", "In My Dreams", and " Miss Mac Baren", as well as having two albums certified gold, ''Tages'' (1965) and ''Tages 2'' (1966). Tages began their recording career as a beat band, heavily influenced and inspired by the Beatles. Initially, the group garnered much criticism from other musicians, who considered them inexperienced. This led to them quickly developing as a group, drawing influences from British mod artists, specifically Small Faces, and like them, were the center of Swedish male fashion from 1965 onward. Got My Mojo Working
"Got My Mojo Working" is a blues song written by Preston "Red" Foster and first recorded by R&B singer Ann Cole in 1956. Foster's lyrics describe several amulets or talismans, called ''mojo'', which are associated with hoodoo, an early African-American folk-magic belief system. In 1957, Muddy Waters adapted the song with some different lyrics and a new musical arrangement. It was a feature of his performances throughout his career, with a live version recorded in 1960 identified as the best known. Waters' rendition has received several awards and otherwise recognized by various organizations and publications. As a blues standard, it has been recorded by numerous blues and other artists. Robert Allen Deitcher (February 5, 1927 – October 1, 2000) was an American pianist and an arranger and writer of music for popular songs. Biography Allen was born to a Jewish family in Troy, New York and had 4 children: a son, Gordon, and 3 daughters, Pamela, Diana, and Katie. He was an accompanist for Perry Como, Peter Lind Hayes, and Arthur Godfrey. Many of his compositions were collaborations with lyricist Al Stillman. Allen lived in New Rochelle, New York from 1963, much of his professional life. Everybody Loves A Lover
"Everybody Loves a Lover" is a popular song which was a hit single for Doris Day in 1958. Its lyricist, Richard Adler, and its composer, Robert Allen, were both best known for collaborations with other partners. The music Allen composed, aside from this song, was usually for collaborations with Al Stillman, and Adler wrote the lyrics after the 1955 death of his usual composing partner, Jerry Ross. Background and Doris Day recording The song's genesis was a comment made to Adler by his lawyer: "You know what Shakespeare said: 'All the world loves a lover.'" Göran Lagerberg
Göran Bertil Lagerberg (; born 20 September 1947) is a Swedish musician and singer-songwriter, best known as the bass guitarist and co-lead vocalist in Swedish rock band Tages and later progressive rock act Kebnekajse. In the 1990s, he was a member of supergroup Grymlings together with Magnus Lindberg, Pugh Rogefeldt and Mikael Rickfors. Lagerberg initially joined Tages in 1963 when they were named Alberts Skiffelgrupp and played washboard. The group quickly abandoned their skiffle roots in favour of beat music, with Lagerberg picking up bass guitar. Upon becoming a professional band in 1964, Lagerberg competed with lead singer Tommy Blom as the group's d''e facto'' leader. Starting in 1966, he composed a huge output of the group's music, penning most original songs they recorded. Tommy Blom
Tommy Albert Blom (3 March 1947 – 25 May 2014) was a Swedish singer, songwriter and musician. He was a member of the band Tages in the 1960s. In the mid 1990s, he started hosting Vinyl 107. In 2008, he lost that job because "he was too old", but he returned in 2011. Every Sunday, ''60-tals morgon'', his programme with songs from the 1960s, was broadcast on Vinyl 107. Before he worked at Vinyl 107, he worked as a music teacher at the school Kvarnbäcksskolan in Haninge. Blom was a member of the music groups Idolerna and The Cadillac band. ''Extra Extra'' is the third studio album by the Swedish rock band Tages, released on 28 November 1966 by Platina Records. Their third and final album on Platina, it was issued only four months after their second studio album ''Tages 2''. The album was largely recorded during a period in which the band had started evolving into a psychedelic rock group, something that became evident on their two final efforts, ''Contrast'' and ''Studio''. The album was recorded during a period in which Tages underwent several lineup changes. It's their first effort not to feature drummer Freddie Skantze, who left following the recording of ''Tages 2,'' and is the second and final album with drummer and vocalist Tommy Tausis, who'd played on several tracks on ''Tages 2''. Small Faces were an English rock band from London, founded in 1965. The group originally consisted of Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones and Jimmy Winston, with Ian McLagan replacing Winston as the band's keyboardist in 1966.
