Taekwondo At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 58 Kg
The men's 58 kg competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 8 August, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the Taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition. Each semifinal loser faced the last remaining repechage competitor from the opposite half of the bracket in a bronze medal match. ExCeL Exhibition Centre
ExCeL London (an abbreviation for Exhibition Centre London) is an exhibition centre, international convention centre and former hospital in the Custom House area of Newham, East London. Safwan Khalil
Safwan Khalil (born 15 May 1986 in Tripoli, Lebanon) is a taekwondo athlete from Australia. He competed at the London Olympics in the 58 kg division, losing in a bronze medal match against Alexey Denisenko. Born in Tripoli, Lebanon, he has lived in Australia since he was a child, attending Lurnea High School in south-western Sydney and training at his brother's gym, Global Martial Arts. His brother Ali Khalil, is also his coach, and the Australian Olympic coach for 2012., Khalil is engaged to fellow Olympic taekwondo athlete Carmen Marton. Pen-Ek Karaket
Pen-Ek Karaket (born 18 March 1990, Bangkok) is a Thai taekwondo practitioner who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the under 58 kg weight class. Karaket lost to Lee Dae-Hoon in the first round. As Lee reached the gold medal match, Karaket was entered into the repechage. Karaket beat Tamer Bayoumi to reach the bronze medal match but lost that to Óscar Muñoz of Colombia. Karaket is coached by Thailand's national taekwondo coach Choi Young-Seok. He also competed in the Asian Games 2010 where he earned silver for Thailand. Karaket graduated from Budin Decha School in the year 2007. Currently he is enrolled to Kasetsart University. Yulis Gabriel Mercedes Reyes (born November 12, 1979 in Monte Plata, Monte Plata Province) is a Dominican taekwondo practitioner and Olympic medalist. He won a silver medal in the – 58 kg class at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after tying with Guillermo Pérez of Mexico, but losing by a judge's decision. Tameem Mohammed Ahmed Al-Kubati (born 1 January 1989 in Sana'a) is a Yemeni taekwondo practitioner.
