Tacoma–Pierce County Health Department
The Tacoma–Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) is a public health department serving Tacoma and Pierce County in the U.S. state of Washington. It was formed by the city government of Tacoma and Pierce County through an interlocal agreement signed in 1972. The agency has approximately 270 employees and an annual budget of $79.1 million. An attempt in December 2020 to dissolve the joint health department and create a county-only equivalent during the COVID-19 pandemic was considered by the Pierce County Council amid public outcry and criticism. Under the county ordinance, the interlocal agreement would be dissolved in late 2022, following a transition process. Pierce County is a county in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 census, the population was 921,130, up from 795,225 in 2010, making it the second-most populous county in Washington, behind King County, and the 60th-most populous in the United States. KNKX (88.5 MHz) is a public broadcasting, public radio station licensed to Tacoma, Washington, United States. A member of National Public Radio (NPR), it airs a jazz and all-news radio, news format for the Seattle metropolitan area. The station is owned by Pacific Public Media, a community-based non-profit organization. It operates from studios in downtown Seattle and downtown Tacoma. Pamela Jean Roach (née Norris, born April 26, 1948) is an American politician who served as a member of the Pierce County Council from 2017 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, she previously served as a member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 31st district from 1991 to 2017. Elected office Roach was elected to the Senate in 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014.
