Taco Ludigman
Taco Ludigman (elected about 819) was the legendary second potestaat (or magistrate governor) of Friesland. There are no contemporary sources for his true historicity, nor are there any coins or other archaeological evidence. Taco or Focko Ludigman was potestaat of Friesland in the final part of the reign of Louis the Pious. He succeeded Magnus Forteman as potestaat. Friesland (, ; official fry, Fryslân ), historically and traditionally known as Frisia, is a province of the Netherlands located in the country's northern part. Louis The Pious
Louis the Pious (german: Ludwig der Fromme; french: Louis le Pieux; 16 April 778 – 20 June 840), also called the Fair, and the Debonaire, was King of the Franks and co-emperor with his father, Charlemagne, from 813. He was also King of Aquitaine from 781. As the only surviving son of Charlemagne and Hildegard, he became the sole ruler of the Franks after his father's death in 814, a position which he held until his death, save for the period 833–34, during which he was deposed. During his reign in Aquitaine, Louis was charged with the defence of the empire's southwestern frontier. He conquered Barcelona from the Emirate of Córdoba in 801 and asserted Frankish authority over Pamplona and the Basques south of the Pyrenees in 812. As emperor he included his adult sons, Lothair, Pepin and Louis, in the government and sought to establish a suitable division of the realm among them. Magnus Forteman
Magnus Forteman (809) was the legendary first potestaat (or magistrate governor) and commander of Frisia which is now part of Germany and the Netherlands. His existence is based on a sage's writings. According to one of these sagas, he was the first of the 17 potestates of Frisia in the period after the kings of Frisia, a period of Charlemagne until Albert III, Duke of Saxony, Albert of Saxony (800–1498). The saga relates that Magnus was the leader of the army of Frisians in the conquest of Rome. The eyes of Pope Leo III were pulled out and he was expelled from Rome by a group of nobles who did not accept his authority. With 700 "discerning" Frisians, Magnus reconquered Rome from these nobles. They entered Rome at night by a small port that had become visible through low water level in the Tiber. Lotharingian
Lotharingia ( la, regnum Lotharii regnum Lothariense Lotharingia; french: Lotharingie; german: Reich des Lothar Lotharingien Mittelreich; nl, Lotharingen) was a short-lived medieval successor kingdom of the Carolingian Empire. As a more durable later duchy of the Ottonian Empire, it comprised present-day Lorraine (France), Luxembourg, Saarland (Germany), Netherlands, and the eastern half of Belgium, along with parts of today's North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) and Nord (France). Adelbrik Adelen
Adelbrik Adelen (Sexbierum, elected about 830) was the third potestaat (magistrate governor) of Friesland a province of the Netherlands. He was potestaat during the government of Lorraine, and defeated the Vikings. In Kollum he won a victory over a Swedish duke. There is a source that indicates that he is a brother or a cousin of the Utrecht Bishop Frederik, who came from the same Friesian village of Sexbierum. He succeeded Taco Ludigman, and in turn was succeeded by Hessel Hermana. The family emblem of Adelen is a Friese eagle half left, and right on a blue field up with a key above. Sexbierum ( fry, Seisbierrum) is a village in the municipality of Waadhoeke, in the central north of the Netherlands. Sexbierum is located in the province of Friesland and located about 7 kilometres (4 mi) north-east of Harlingen, about 7 kilometres (4 mi) north-west of Franeker. The distance to Amsterdam is about 100 kilometres (60 mi). The village consists of approximately 600 houses, with 1,744 inhabitants in January 2014.
